Chapter 8
I watched her posts without making a move.
Jenifer finally couldn’t hold back. “Kayla, I didn’t think you could endure this long. Come to my room tonight; I have a big surprise for you.”
“A big surprise? Can you get Aaron to divorce me directly?”
Jenifer scoffed, “You talk a big game, but in reality, you can’t live without Aaro.”
“Tonight, you’ll see that Aaron isn’t indifferent to me; he just doesn’t realize it yet, thinking he loves you, his useless wife.”

Of course, I planned to go, and I would record everything on my phone. The more evidence I could gather, the better. I wanted Aaron to see it all–did he really think his true self looked good?
When I brought up divorce, he insisted I could always be his only one, even claiming that his heart was 100% mine. How could he still act so righteous after all this?
In the candlelight, Jenifer clasped her hands together, wishing aloud before blowing out the candles. “Aaro, can you fulfill my wish?”
“When have I ever denied your wishes? As long as you want it, I’ll make it happen.”
“You won’t get mad?”

“Of course not. I could be angry at the whole world, but never at you.”
Jenifer leaned in, planting a kiss on the corner
of his lips.
Aaron froze for a moment.
A flash of light sliced through the darkness that had briefly settled in the air.
I zoomed in on their faces.
When Aaron turned and saw me, his usually calm expression turned slightly pale. “Kaye, when did you get here?”
“I arrived just when you two were kissing.”
“This is an accident; I didn’t expect Jenny to do

this. She’s being so ridiculous!” He reprimanded her, but there was no real threat in his tone. It was more terrifying to see him calmly watching me go mad in the hospital.
“It doesn’t matter how you explain this; it will all be evidence when we get divorced.”
Aaron grasped my hand. “I told you, I won’t divorce you.”
“Do you think that matters? How can you stop someone who wants a divorce? Are you planning to keep me locked in the hospital and take another kidney?”
A mocking smile lingered on my lips, leaving a deep imprint in Aaron’s eyes. It was as if he finally recognized my resolve.

He started coming to my room every day, bringing a different gift each time to figure out what I liked.
See, he knew what women liked; he just couldn’t be bothered to invest any thought into
- me.
Unfortunately, even by the time I was discharged, he still hadn’t figured out my preferences.
That day, I drafted the divorce agreement.
Aaron tore it to shreds.
“Kaye, I know my recent actions have hurt you, but you have to give me a chance to make it right. How can I do that if you won’t let me-”

“Not every ‘I’m sorry‘ can be exchanged for a ‘that’s okay. Not everything deserves forgiveness and compensation! If you really want to make amends, start by turning yourself in.”
Aaron tightened his grip on my shoulders. “Kaye, does it have to be this tense between us?”
“It’s already gone beyond that for me.”
A flicker of anger crossed Aaron’s face. “Then let’s see if you can actually leave this marriage. I have the best maritime attorney on my side.”
“Kaye, don’t push me.”
I matched his intensity, my own anger flaring. “Oh, so now you’re threatening me? You’re the
