Chapter 15
Thirty years old is the perfect time to go out and make a name for myself! I firmly told Chris “no.”
But he was relentless, lingering at my company under the guise of work while secretly competing with Jarvis. I could only try to avoid them both and let Kai handle the situation.
Kai always managed to keep things in order, allowing me a brief respite.
Unfortunately, good times didn’t last.
Jarvis, having had a few drinks, showed up at my door, causing a scene. “Riley! What do I
have to do for you to forgive me? I’ve given you everything–will you just come home with me?”

Chris was there too, egging him on. “Those pathetic things of yours? They’re fit for the trash!”
“Rye, don’t listen to him. Mine are pristine.” I pinched the bridge of my nose and yanked off the mask I had just applied.
Fighting the urge to go outside and slap each of them, I called the Aguilars to take the drunken Chris home. The commotion outside continued.
Jarvis actually didn’t think much of Chris, but he held some disdain for Kai. He was convinced Riley wouldn’t prefer someone as loud and brash as Chris.
In terms of character and ability, he was far more stable than that spoiled rich kid. With a

sneer, Jarvis provoked Chris, who immediately erupted in anger: “You old has–been, how dare you even breathe!”
Jarvis, stung by the insult and fueled by alcohol, was ablaze with fury. “I’ve been in a relationship with Riley for nine years, and we even had a child.”
The moment the words left Jarvis’s mouth, he froze. His competitive edge seemed to rest solely on that one point, tinged with a sense of resignation.
“But in the end, you couldn’t keep her. That just shows how pathetic you are!”
Chris shot back without hesitation, shoving Jarvis until he collapsed to the ground in despair.

When I finally opened the door, the Aguilars arrived just in time to take their precious young master away.
I had never seen Jarvis looking so defeated; he resembled a wounded beast, crumpled on the ground with despair in his eyes as he looked at

“Riley, do you know? In these past three years, I’ve often had nightmares. I dreamt of that child crying, asking me why I didn’t keep him. My heart felt like it was being sliced open.”
“I’m sorry, Riley. I’m so sorry for you both…”
Jarvis covered his eyes with his hands, trying to preserve his last shred of dignity, but tears slipped through his fingers

I sighed. “Just go. Don’t come looking for me again. We can’t go back.”
Thinking of his former glory, I realized how three years of emotional torment had taken their toll; at just over thirty, he already had streaks of silver in his black hair.
A mix of emotions swirled within me. Let this complicated relationship come to an end.
Jarvis knelt on the ground, clutching my hem. “Please, give me one more chance. I’ve fallen for you in this life; have mercy on me. Will you forgive me?”
I didn’t look back. Silence was my answer.
One mistake is enough; the past cannot be

changed, but the future is still worth pursuing.
Under the streetlight, Jarvis could no longer contain his swirling emotions. Clutching his shirt, he curled up in the corner, letting out pained groans.
He could only watch helplessly as the one he loved moved further away. Riley didn’t turn back even once.
Once, he believed that the most painful thing was the separation of life and death. But the longing for a reunion that would never come was the true torment.
The person who gradually faded from view had once been the treasure he discovered in his youth. But now, that treasure no longer belonged to him; it had completely cast him

aside.
In corners where he no longer mattered, that treasure continued to shine with captivating brilliance. He had to admit it: without him, Riley was thriving. He had never been her only one.
In this tangled relationship, only he remained, forever stuck in place, eternally frozen in that moment.
