Chapter 9
In the hospital, Jarvis was wrapped in bandages.
His assistant stood nearby, trembling as he reported the situation. Ever since Jarvis publicly revealed his relationship with Ms. Terry at the engagement party, he had transformed from his usual calm demeanor to an unusually irritable
one.
The staff in the general manager’s office were overwhelmed, spending nearly all their time coordinating with overseas contacts, closely monitoring Riley’s every move abroad, and reporting every detail.
“Ms. Terry… she’s missing.”

“She was caught in an avalanche and buried under the snow… no…”
Jarvis felt a jolt in his chest, his eyes nearly losing focus.
Before the assistant could finish, a cup flew past his forehead, shattering on the floor.
“Stop talking nonsense! Get out!”
Jarvis, wild with rage, ignored his still–healing broken ribs and forced himself up on crutches to investigate personally.
The answers he received confirmed his Riley was indeed unaccounted for.
News reports were circulating about a small

town in Western Europe experiencing extreme weather that had caused an avalanche, with
tourists trapped beneath the snow, and rescue efforts were underway.
“She’ll be fine,” Jarvis muttered, shaking his head to reassure himself. “She’s the smartest; she must be hiding.”
Ignoring the protests, Jarvis immediately ordered preparations for a private jet. He needed to get to Northern Europe as quickly as possible to bring her back. But before he could make it out of the hospital, he was stopped and sent back to his room.
To prevent his injuries from worsening, Mrs. Fraley instructed the staff to strap him to the bed and administered a sedative. She had never seen her son so crazed and out of control.

Jarvis had once brought that girl home, but her complicated background and burdens weighed heavily on her, making her anything but pure. Mrs. Fraley, having lived most of her life, had encountered women like her husband’s mistresses before; she simply didn’t want her son to endure that kind of suffering again.
“Mom, please let me go find her,” Jarvis begged from the bed, his emaciated frame a shadow of his former self.
Her heart softened, and she promised to help him find Riley, but only if he focused on healing.
The Fraleys leveraged all their connections but found nothing of substance–only a diary and a pregnancy report. The report indicated that Riley was over three months pregnant.

Jarvis’s eyes reddened as he trembled while
opening the diary.
“Jarvis,
You once said that couples who see the aurora together will meet again in their next life.
Unfortunately, we missed that chance.
I brought our baby to see the aurora; it’s truly beautiful. If you were here, you would surely be amazed by nature’s wonders.
Yes, I’m pregnant. Even though you took precautions, this life has quietly arrived. Doesn’t that mean our fate isn’t over yet? I want to return home to tell you about the baby.

I’ve grown up as a victim of this environment, but at this moment, I shamefully wish to use our child to keep you with me.
The news is broadcasting your marriage to Joey; I canceled my return ticket. Everything I see on this journey, even the ordinary clouds, I want to share with you.”
“I could never have imagined these things before. I was acutely aware of the gap between us, so I dared not pause for even a moment, finding the courage to stand beside you.
The heavy snow is about to swallow us whole; the baby and I may never return. Such is fate- I have never been expected, nor has the child within me.”
Jarvis was already in tears on the hospital bed.

The diary’s last entry was dated February 20th, their nine–year anniversary of love.
It concluded with: “Jarvis, congratulations on your marriage. Wishing you some little ones in the future.”
