Lisette had no clue who might be arriving, but she assumed they were all part of Gary’s family.
It suddenly occurred to her that her visit might involve more than just a meeting with Ernest.

After finishing his phone call, Gary walked up to her. “Lisette, my mom wants me to stop by for a moment. Please wait here for me, and I’ll be back soon.”
Usually, Gary would have brought Lisette along, but today was different. He worried that if he brought her, his family might tease her as soon as he left.
Alone and facing unfamiliar people, she would definitely be shy.
“Alright, I’ll stay here,” Lisette replied.
“Okay. Call me if you need anything, or ask the staff for help.”
“Sure.”
Once Gary left, Lisette looked around. The scenery was picturesque with distant dense trees, creating a serene atmosphere.

But as the sun rose higher, the temperature became increasingly
fortable.
She found a pavilion and took refuge in its shade.
When Rhonda arrived, Gary had not yet returned to the living room.
Seeing only Gary, she asked, “Where’s Lisette?”
“She’s outside, Mom. What’s the matter?”
Rhonda gave him a look of impatience. “What’s going on? Rhea and the others have arrived, and William is on his way. Aren’t you going to introduce Lisette to them?”
Gary sighed. “Mom, wouldn’t it be better to wait until everyone’s here before introducing her?”
It’s not going to make a significant difference.
Rhonda sighed in frustration. “You’re acting like you’re keeping her hidden from everyone.”
As if someone were trying to steal her away.
Gary, amused by his mother’s remarks, responded with a wry smile, “Yes, I’m keeping her hidden. I’d rather keep her all to myself.”
Rhonda was at a loss for words, wondering how she ended up with such a lovesick
son.
“Come on, Aunt Rhea is here. Go and greet her first. You can introduce Lisette to the rest of the family when they arrive.”

As they entered the living room, Rhea’s voice was heard. “I came to meet Gary’s fiancée. Where is she?”
Rhea scanned the room but couldn’t find either Gary or his fiancée.
Where could they be?
Scarlett laughed softly. “It seems Gary’s fiancée might be a bit shy and reserved. She’s probably waiting outside with him.”
“Really? She’s that shy?” Rhonda was taken aback.
She approached Rhea. “Rhea.”
Rhea turned to her, glanced at Gary, and then looked behind him. “Gary, where is your fiancée?”
Gary walked over and answered, “She’s outside.”
“Outside? You left her out there by herself?” Rhea’s concern was evident.
Gary looked to Rhonda for help.
He didn’t want Lisette to be left alone, but his mother had called him in.
Rhonda said, “I asked Gary to bring his fiancée inside. I didn’t expect him to treat her like some delicate thing and leave her out there. It’s driving me crazy.”
Scarlett laughed heartily. “Gary, I can’t decide if you’re more like Rhonda or like Harry.”
Gary’s father, Harry Reeve, was a professor of archaeology and was rarely around.
Given the urgency of the situation with Lisette, Harry hadn’t had a chance to return home.
The focus shifted back to Rhonda, who seemed slightly embarrassed. “Of course, he’s more like his dad!”
Scarlett shook her head. “I think he’s more like you.”
After all, Rhonda had been the one to pursue Harry so persistently.
Rhonda blushed, and the room was filled with laughter.
Gary, not wanting Lisette to wait alone for too long, said, “I’ll go check on her now. Once everyone’s here, I’ll bring her in to meet everyone.”
Scarlett clicked her tongue. “You can’t be away from her for a second without getting worked up.”
Rhea smiled. “I wouldn’t have guessed Gary would be so attached to his fiancée.”
Rhonda was accustomed to this and decided not to comment further.
Gary cleared his throat, a slight flush on his face, and said,” Aunt Rhea, Mom, I’ll be right back.”
He left, and as he walked away, Rhea felt a mix of relief and frustration.“Seeing Gary like this reminds me of William. And thinking of William just makes me anxious.”
He had once married someone with a noor hackeround and academic record then he got entamed to

someone with a solid background and academic standing but was very strong–willed.
None of them seemed to meet her standards.
Scarlett sensed the underlying tension and asked, “What’s going on?”
Rhea looked at Scarlett and admitted, “I was relieved when William divorced. But with this new engagement, even though I wasn’t thrilled, I didn’t interfere because Mabel seemed suitable for him. Yet, after two years of no news, I’m at a loss.”
Scarlett frowned. “Rhea, it’s hard to say. William is very determined, and we can’t control his choices. But as parents, we naturally hope for our children to marry and settle down sooner.”
“As for Mabel … ” Scarlett hesitated, her forehead creasing deeply.
She then proceeded, “She’s too strong–willed and distant. William is also stubborn; they’re not a good match.”
Rhea had always been wary of Mabel. A woman who was too assertive wasn’t necessarily a positive thing.
She had also heard that Mabel had many male friends, which had been a significant reason for their breakup.
Rhea also frowned after hearing Scarlett’s words.
This sister–in–law of hers always spoke bluntly, but she was extremely insightful.
Her bluntness had pinpointed the issue for Rhea.
Indeed, if William hadn’t been so fond of Mabel and if her background hadn’t been a match for him, Rhea would never have considered them together.
Meanwhile, Rhonda stayed silent.
William’s marital issues had always been a concern for everyone, but as an outsider, she felt powerless to intervene.
