The man in front had striking features and deep, dark eyes that seemed to hold the night within them.
Kurt’s eyes widened slightly in surprise.
He hadn’t expected to see Lisette here.
But before he could process that, William stepped forward and entered the elevator.
A familiar scent filled the small space, making it feel even more cramped.
Lisette’s hand, which was resting by her side, clenched into a fist, her nails digging into her palm.
As William entered, her entire body tensed.
Straightening her back, she walked out of the elevator.
After a few steps, she stopped and said, “I’m getting married, so I won’t be causing you any more embarrassment. You don’t need to waste your time on me.”
With that, she walked away, disappearing from William’s view.
Kurt entered the elevator, glanced briefly at William, then pressed the close button and looked away.
The elevator doors slowly closed, and Lisette grew farther away.
With the doors shutting out the outside world, a heavy silence filled the space.
Lisette walked briskly until she reached a corner and leaned against the wall.
William’s unexpected appearance had disrupted her calm. Whether it was their first encounter at the Golden Hour Bar two years later, the charity gala before that, or the last time at the restaurant, he always managed to stir her emotions.
Lisette closed her eyes and smiled wryly.
His presence affected her because she hated him.
She went to an emerald store to buy high–quality emeralds and then went back.
