Chapter 39 Worry
Finished
The atmosphere returned to normal. Rhea pulled Mabel aside for a private conversation. Meanwhile, Gary stepped out with his phone to call Lisette.
He wanted to tell her that Ernest was really pleased with her gift.
William glanced at Gary as he left and then headed upstairs.
Everyone was staying at the mansion tonight, and cach had their own room.
There was no need to worry about accommodation.
Standing by a tree in the yard, one hand in his pocket, Gary patiently waited as the phone rang.
Finally, someone answered the call just as it was about to disconnect.
He smiled and called out, “Lisette.”
“Gary.”
Her voice was hoarse and weak, instantly erasing the smile from Gary’s face. His brows knitted in concern and he asked. “Lisette, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing, just a little cold.”
“You have a cold? Did you take any medicine?”
“I did. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine after some sleep.”
How could he not worry? Her voice clearly didn’t sound right.
“Do you have a fever now?”
She was home alone, with no one to take care of her, and that made him anxious.
“No, just a sore throat. Really, it’s nothing.”
Sensing his concern, Lisette tried to reassure him.
“Make sure you get some rest. If it gets worse, you have to go to the hospital.”
If he were in Oceana right now, he would’ve rushed to see her.
She chuckled softly and said, “It’s nothing, Gary. I took some medicine, and I feel drowsy. I’ll go to sleep

“Alright”
Lisette hung up quickly, but Gary’s frown only deepened.
Tomorrow was Ernest’s birthday: he couldn’t afford to miss it. Yet leaving Lisette alone worried him.
Immediately, Gary dialed another number and said, “I need you to find a caretaker for me. It’s urgent.”

“Alright.”
“Call me as soon as you find one.”
“No problem.”
He ended the call but remained uneasy, knowing there wasn’t much else he could do from afar.

Gary stayed outside and waited for the update. Not long after, his phone rang. The person on the other end informed him they’d found a caretaker.
Gary quickly gave them Lisette’s address and instructed them to head over immediately.
However, twenty minutes later, the caretaker called back and told him no one was home.
Gary’s expression changed.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes, I knocked for a long time, but there was no response.”
“Stay there. I’ll call her now.”
He hung up and dialed Lisette, praying she’d answer.
If she didn’t, things could get complicated.
Thankfully, she picked it up, though her voice sounded even more congested. “Gary..
Hearing her voice brought him some relief, but his worry only grew. Gary asked, “Lisette, are you okay? 1 sent a caretaker to look after you.”
Lisette was confused and asked, “A caretaker?”
“Yes, they’re right outside. Open the door.”
Still dazed, Lisette obediently got out of bed to check, but found no one outside.
“Gary, there’s no one here.”
“No one?”
Gary frowned. Could the caretaker have gone to the wrong place?
“Hold on, I’ll call the caretaker.”
Just as he was about to hang up, Lisette realized something and stopped him. She said, “Gary, wait, I’m not home right now,”
“What?”
“I left on a business trip this afternoon. I’m in Divale now.”
Gary’s eyes widen in disbelief, and he repeats, “You’re in Divale?”

“Yeah, I’m b
with my boss to meet a client.”
“That’s great! Tell me the name of your hotel. I’ll come over right away.”
He was thrilled to hear they were both in the same city.
“Tiffani Hotel.”
“Perfect. I’ll be there soon.”
“Wait, Gary…

Gary had already ended the call. He rushed into the living room and told Rhonda, “Mom, I’m heading out. Please tell Ernest.”
Rhonda looked at him in surprise and wondered, ‘You’re leaving now?”
Yeah, something came up. I need to go now.”
Without waiting for her response, he dashed out.
Rhonda watched him run off, calling out, “Hey, Gary!”
Gary was already in his car, the engine roaring as he drove away.
What could be so urgent?
