Chapter 35 Attend Ernest’s Birthday Party with Me

Lisette had been thrown into a whirlwind of activity, sketching designs, visiting factories to find the perfect fabric, and running all over the place. Her days were a blur of movement, with no time to catch her breath.
Before she knew it, five days had passed. Everyone else in the company had already left, leaving her alone in the office, cutting and sewing.
The only sound that filled the large, empty office was the rhythmic hum of the sewing machine.
Gary walked in carrying dinner and saw her sitting at the sewing machine. Her expression was focused and
serious.
Not wanting to disturb her, he quietly set the dinner aside and took a seat on the sofa. Gary rested his chin on his hand as he watched her.
Five years ago, her face still had the softness of baby fat, her cheeks rosy, and her eyes bright. Two years ago, she had lost that youthful roundness, her face growing pale and more angular.
Now, though her face remained slender, it had regained a healthy glow. Her complexion vibrant and full of life
Gary picked up his phone. He pointed the camera at her and captured the moment.
Lisette finished sewing the piece she was working on and lifted it to examine, satisfied with her work.
“Finished?”
The familiar voice startled her. She looked up in surprise and exclaimed, “Gary?”
He walked over with a warm smile..
Lisette glanced outside, where the darkness had settled. She realized that everyone had already gone
home.
“When did you get here?” she asked, unable to hide her surprise.
Gary checked his watch and said, “About three hours ago.”
She shook her head and said helplessly, “I didn’t even notice.”
Gary chuckled and said, “Of course you didn’t. You were so focused, I was impressed.
Lisette smiled sheepishly.
That was just how she was–once she got into her work, everything else faded away.
“I brought dinner, but it’s cold now. Did you have a microwave here?” Gary asked, holding up the food.
“Yes, over here.”
She led him to the break room, where they reheated the food and then sat down at the table to eat.

As they ate, they chatted about various things until Gary suddenly asked. “Are you free tomorrow?”

“It’s Ernest’s birthday the day after tomorrow. My mom is insistent that I bring a date, and I’m feeling extremely frustrated.
Just today, Rhonda reminded him that he must bring someone special, someone he truly liked.
He really wanted Lisette to go with him. Gary had to try, even though he knew she might say no.
Lisette paused, then reached for a napkin to wipe her mouth. She said, “Gary, I can’t accept your invitation.”
Going to Ernest’s birthday with him would clearly send a message.
She couldn’t agree to that.
Gary
sighed and wore a look of resignation. He said, “I knew you’d reject me.”
Lisette chuckled and said, “It’s getting late. Let’s head home.”
“Alright.
Gary drove Lisette home and left after making sure she got home safely.
Instead of going to bed, Lisette pulled out the silk charmeuse she had bought a few days ago,
The silk charmeuse was extremely rare and expensive, and finding good quality was no easy task.
She had been fortunate–while leaving the factory after checking fabrics, she stumbled upon an old man selling them.
Lisette had purchased all the silk charmeuses he possessed.
Now was the perfect time to use it.
She immediately took out the threads and began crafting toggle buttons.
The Celtic knot was something that symbolized blessings of happiness.
Since Gary mentioned that Ernest was quite old, she decided to use the silk charmeuse and make a pair of toggle buttons with the pattern as a gift for the old man
Even though she wouldn’t be attending the celebration, she couldn’t ignore the fact that she now knew. about his birthday.
She stayed up all night, working until the gifts were complete.
But they still needed a box.
After a quick wash and change of clothes, Lisette drove to the mall.
She quickly located a sandalwood box and placed the gifts inside.
After that, her task was complete.

“Lisette.
“Gary, where are you?”
“I’m at home and about to head to the airport.”
“Can you wait a bit? I have something to give you.”
“Sure.
Soon, Lisette arrived at Gary’s villa and handed him the box. She said, “As a good friend of yours, this is my gift for Ernest.”
Gary looked at the box, feeling a surge of emotion. He asked, “Can I open it?”
“Of course.
He opened it to reveal the Celtic Knot toggle buttons, which appeared elegant and sophisticated.
Gary was astonished and asked, “What are these?”
“These are toggle buttons. I made them myself, wishing Ernest’s health and happiness.”
“You made these last night?”
He had only told her about the party the night before, and now she was handing him this gift. If she hadn’t made them last night, when else could she have done it?
“Yes.
Gary clutched the box, emotions churning in his chest, unsure how to express his gratitude.
She couldn’t attend the party, but this gift was more than enough.
“Lisette, can I hug you?”
Lisette smiled and embraced him.
Gary had always been a blessing to her; how could she not give something back in return?
Gary held her tightly, his voice hoarse, “Thank you.”
He felt deeply moved, knowing that his efforts over the previous two years had not been in vain.
