Chapter 33 Misunderstanding
“Make sure you get some good rest before diving back into work,” Gary advised Lisette as she stepped out of the car.
“I will. Drive safely on your way back,” she replied.
“Yeah.”
Lisette turned and headed to her apartment. Gary watched until she disappeared from sight before getting back into his car.
Once home, Lisette tossed her bag onto the couch. She lay down and closed her eyes.
Last night, she had a dream–a memory from that fateful night two years ago at the Golden Hour Bar.
She had begged William and pleaded with him to spare their child.
His response was cold. He told her that it was a consequence of her being insensible.
And then the child was

A bitter smile tugged at Lisette’s lips.
Indeed, she was naive back then, and it cost her dearly,
Now, she and William had nothing to do with each other. So why did it matter if she was sensible?
William was truly unreasonable.
Meanwhile, Gary returned home to find Rhonda sitting on the couch and sipping coffee.
He was surprised and wondered, “Mom, what brings you here?”
Rhonda had been visiting more frequently the past few days.
Setting down her coffee cup, Rhonda gave him a glance. She said, ‘Ernest’s birthday is coming up soon. You haven’t forgotten, have you?”
Gary assured, “Of course not, Mom. You don’t need to worry about that.”
In the past, he couldn’t return from abroad to celebrate Ernest’s birthday due to his health, but he always prepared a gift. This year would be no different.
Rhonda nodded approvingly and continued, “Ernest mentioned yesterday that if you brought a girlfriend to his birthday celebration, he’d be over the moon.”
Her words were loaded with implication. Gary sighed inwardly and said, “Mom, it’s not that simple.”

There was no way Lisette would agree t into going.
Rhonda was dissatisfied with her son responsed. She pressed on. “Why not? You two are already sharing a bed; why can’t she go with you?”

“Sharing a bed?” Gary asked, shocked.

Rhonda held up that strand of hair and said triumphantly. “This is the evidence I found. There’s no need to hide things from your mother! You must bring that girl with you on that day!”
With that, she grabbed her bag and left.
Gary watched her car drive away, tom between laughter and frustration.
He didn’t need to guess where his mom had found that hair.
She had completely misunderstood the situation.
After a shower, Lisette threw herself into work until a knock on the door interrupted her.
She opened it only to find Frank standing there. Frank was visibly relieved when he saw her. He asked, “Lisette, why has your phone been off?”
Surprised, Lisette asked, “Off?”
She suddenly remembered something and went to retrieve her phone.
Sure enough, it was off–not because she turned it off, but because the battery had died.
Frank slapped his forehead and displayed a relieved expression.
“Do you know how worried I was?”
“I called you, but your phone was off. I came over, and there was no answer. I was really…”
Lisette hadn’t expected him to care so much. She was momentarily stunned then sincerely said, “I’m sorry. I’ll make sure to keep my phone on from now on.”
Frank sighed, but there was nothing he could do about her.
He said, “Lisette, you have to spend the day with me today. My heart needs some serious comforting.”
Lisette was helpless and asked, “But don’t you want the fall collection to be launched this morning?” “No way! I understand that a day’s postponement won’t affect you in any way.”
Lisette could only agree.
“Cherry season is here. Let’s go cherry–picking. You can relax, and maybe find some inspiration.”
He said it casually, but in truth he knew she loved cherries.
Lisette smiled and said, “Alright.”
Soon, they arrived at Zoria Hill’s Cherry orchard,
The orchard spanned hundreds of acres. When the cherry blossoms bloomed, the beauty was breathtaking; when the cherries ripened, it was an entirely different kind of picturesque scene.
