From Mrs. Perfect to Miss Nobody
Chapter 28 He Appeared Before Her Again
William swirled his glass of wine, his dark eyes scanning the lively hall with a detached gaze.
“You’re here too, aren’t you?” he observed casually.

Chase turned to face him, leaning against the railing just like William, taking in the vibrant scene of the grand hall.
The men were dressed in sharp suits, and the women were adorned with intricate makeup and elegant gowns–a truly picturesque sight.
It was an excellent vantage point to view the entire room, especially Lisette and Frank.
Is it a deliberate choice or just a coincidence?
“I didn’t have much of a choice, as you know,” Chase replied.
Lionel Hall’s wife was his sister–in–law, and refusing a family invitation was not an option.
“What about you? Is Mabel not accompanying you tonight?” Chase asked.
They were rarely seen apart since becoming a couple.
They would attend all events together.
“She had some other obligations.”
“Something more pressing than being here with you?” Chase raised an eyebrow in surprise.
The couple had seemed inseparable, their relationship admired by many.
William didn’t answer, his eyes still focused straight ahead.
Chase followed his gaze and noticed Lisette being embraced by another man while a flustered waiter continued to apologize profusely.
It seemed the waiter had spilled a drink on Lisette, and the than was now scolding him.
Chase smirked and glanced at William.
Three years ago, William had stunned everyone by suddenly announcing his marriage to a woman who wasn’t Mabel.
Despite the shock, he provided this ordinary woman with everything she could desire, leading many to believe he had truly fallen for her,
When they thought he had settled down, the marriage ended abruptly, and William quickly became Involved with Mabel, their swift union surprising everyone.
The revelation that Neil had caused the miscarriage of William’s former wife clarified that William’s heart had always been with Mabel.
Now, seeing his ex–wife with another man after two years, one might wonder how William felt about it.

Yet, as Chase observed, William was no longer watching; he was sipping his drink.
His half–closed eyes still carried an intimidating, dark intensity.
Bailey’s assistant escorted Lisette to the changing room upstairs.
Their pleasant chat had been abruptly interrupted by the waiter’s accident.

“Ms. Connor, please select whichever garment you prefer, the assistant said, gesturing to a selection of high–end, pristine garments still tagged.
“Okay. I pick this one,” Lisette chose a white gown that reached her ankles.
“Excellent choice. Change and come downstairs when you’re ready. I have other tasks to attend to.”
“Alright. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.”
As the assistant left, Lisette took the gown to the changing room. Soon, she encountered a problem–the zipper, which had fit perfectly, got stuck around her hips.
She regretted letting the assistant leave so soon.
Holding the back of her gown, she turned and saw the changing room was empty. She would have to manage on her own.
Just as she was about to head back, the door to the rest area opened.
Instinctively, she covered her back and turned around,
In that moment, she froze.
Standing there in a suit, composed and reserved, was William’s assistant, Kurt.
Seeing him, Lisette tightened her grip on the gown but quickly retreated into the changing room, pulling
the curtain shut.
As the curtain fell, she leaned against the partition, her heart racing.
Kurt.
Why is he here?
