Chapter 26 I Do Like Someone
Gary arrived home to find Rhonda supervising some home improvements.
“Mom, what are you doing?”
“I noticed that some things in your house were getting old and needed updating.”
the right. That’s better.
Gary observed that they weren’t merely making small adjustments–the curtains, sofa, and coffee table had all been replaced.
The decor had shifted from lighter tones to warmer shades.
This was definitely not his style.
Gary raised an eyebrow, “Mom, is there someone coming over?”
She was well aware of his preferences, so the complete overhaul of the house suggested there was a special reason behind it.
Rhonda’s gaze flickered momentarily. “No, there’s no one special. Don’t you think the house was a bit too dark? You’re young, and dark colors aren’t ideal.”
She added, “I don’t want you to end up like William, still single at his age.”
The marriage of William had become a major concern for both families.
They were getting older, engaged for a long time, and it was past time to get married.
Yet neither William nor his partner seemed eager to address it.
Rhonda didn’t want Gary to follow the same path of delaying marriage.
Gary sighed, placing a hand on Rhonda’s shoulder and guiding her gently to the sofa. “Mom, I’m not like
William.
He understood her worries. Over the past year, she had often asked about his romantic life.
Her concern for his future was genuine.
“You’re different, I know. But look at you now–still no girlfriend. When will you bring someone home and make me happy?”
Rhonda looked at him with hopeful eyes.
Feeling a bit exasperated, Gary said, “Mom, I do like someone. I’m pursuing her. Please try not to worry so much
He hadn’t mentioned this before, but he was concerned that Rhonda might react strongly if he didn’t tell her.

“Really. When have I ever lied to you?”

Rhonda’s anxiety eased slightly, but she quickly fired off more questions. “What does she do? What’s her family background? Is she attractive? Is she a good person? You’re so outstanding: does she deserve you?”
Gary frowned at the barrage of inquiries.
other way.
While Lisette might not come from a prestigious family, she was exceptional in every other
Despite having a child from a previous relationship, to him, she was perfect.
“Mom, does family background matter that much?”
Rhonda was taken aback.
Gary looked at her earnestly. “Mom, to be honest, she doesn’t come from a wealthy family, but she’s remarkable. She’s kind, strong, optimistic, gentle, and beautiful. I’ve liked her for five years.”
Rhonda’s eyes widened in surprise. “F–five years.
“So, Mom, could you focus less on her family background? I’ve been trying to win her over for two years, and she hasn’t given me a chance yet.”
“I hope you’ll support me. I promise, if she becomes your daughter–in–law, she’ll be the best.”
This was the first time Gary had spoken to Rhonda like this, and she could sense the trust he had in her.
He genuinely needed her support.
Sigh. Forget it. Gary has always been sensible, independent, and determined. If I oppose him, our relationship might suffer.
And then there’s the issue of his health….
Rhonda took his hand in hers. “Alright, I won’t oppose it. But you must promise me she’s a good girl.”
“I promise. Once you meet her, I’m sure you’ll be pleased.”
“Good. Grandpa Ernest’s birthday is coming up soon. If you can, bring her along. Grandpa Ernest would be delighted.”
“Alright.”
