Chapter 14 I Love You
The doctor arrived swiftly, pushing Lisette into the emergency room.
Gary urgently grabbed the doctor’s arm. “Why is she bleeding so much?”
“She’s suffered severe trauma, leading to a miscarriage. We need to operate immediately.”
Gary recoiled in shock. “A miscarriage…
Lisette was quickly taken into the operating room. Jon approached Gary and said, “Mr. Reeve, let me handle things here. You should head back; Mrs. Reeve is asking for you.”
Gary shook his head. “No, I’ll stay. I’ll return later.”
“But-”
“There’s no ‘but’!”
His usually composed manner had turned intense, his voice rising with frustration.
Jon was startled by his sudden severity but nodded. “Understood.”
He began to leave.
Gary called out, “Wait.”
“Yes, sir?”
“Tell my mom that I’m dealing with an unexpected situation and will return tomorrow. Also, arrange for a change of clothes to be brought to me.”
“Alright.”
“Tell no one about what happened tonight.”
“Rest assured, Mr. Reeve.”
As Jon departed, Gary sank into a chair, his gaze locked on the emergency room, deep in thought.
Three years had passed in what felt like an instant, and now, seeing her in such distress
William dropped Mabel off at her upscale apartment building. Mabel didn’t exit the car; instead, she wrapped her arms around him and leaned in for a kiss.
But just as their lips were about to meet, William turned his head.
“It’s getting late.”
Mabel peered at him through the dim car interior, unable to decipher his expression.
“I know. Don’t leave tonight, okay?”

Her hand slipped into his shirt, beginning to undo his buttons.
“William, don’t you want me?”
“I do want you. I want you very much.”

As she settled into his lap, her arms around his neck, her lips brushing his eyes and forehead, a sudden flash of light illuminated the car.
Mabel frowned in confusion.
William kept his gaze forward. “There’s no need to hurry.”
Mabel’s irritation flared, though she understood he was trying to protect her.
She moved aside as William stepped out of the car and walked towards the source of the flash.
A figure hiding behind a tree fumbled with a camera but was quickly apprehended by William.
“Are you going to hand over the film, or should I take it from you?” William’s tone was dark and intimidating.
The reporter, visibly shaken, handed over the film.
William took it and scrutinized the man. “Show me your ID.”
The reporter quickly complied. “Mr. Preston, I promise, I won’t release any information from tonight!”
“Don’t make me repeat myself.”
The reporter handed over his ID, which William glanced at before tossing it back.
The reporter hurried away.
William returned to Mabel, who looked at him with intense adoration.
In her life, she had completely surrendered herself to him.
“I’ll watch you go in.”
Mabel hugged him tightly. “William, this past year, I was so afraid. Afraid that you might belong to someone else, afraid that you didn’t love me anymore.
“I’ve put aside all my pride. I love you. From now on, for the rest of my life, I will love only you.
“William, I love you.
“I love you.”
As night fell, the car reached the villa.
William stepped out and walked inside.
But after only a few steps, he stopped, looking at the darkened villa before him.

This wasn’t the home he had shared with Lisette; it was another of his properties.
Yet, oddly, it felt like the house he had shared with Lisette.
He glanced up at the second floor.
It was completely dark.
No warm lights as there had been before.
He unbuttoned his shirt and stepped inside.
