Chapter 93
“Mr. Just, are you… are you running a fever?” Iris asked, puzzled. She still could not comprehend why he was so angry.
If it wasn’t a fever causing him to act irrationally, why would he say something so weird? It almost sounded like he was upset about other men pursuing her.
“What are you talking about?” Jason asked, baffled.
Iris was trying not to get fired, so she said humbly, “N–nothing. I’m just concerned about your health,”
Jason’s gaze was intense and inscrutable. “For Professor Sandler’s sake, I’ll give you another chance,” he gave a grand excuse even though he clearly knew he wouldn’t fire her.
Grateful, Iris quickly nodded. “I’ll do a good job. I promise it won’t happen again.
“Go back to work,” he said, waving her off.
As she turned to leave, Jason called out, “Wait.”
Iris paused with her hand on the doorknob. She turned back with a smile, eager to please.” What can I do for you, Mr. Just?”
“Do you like the man who gave you flowers today?”
Iris was caught off guard. How was this relevant to her job?
“Umm…”
“The case I assigned to you is very important, so I need to make sure that your personal life won’t affect your work.”
Jason had found yet another reasonable excuse for himself.
Iris quickly assured him, “It won’t. I won’t let my personal life interfere with my work. He’s just a friend. I’ve already rejected him, but he won’t give up. We’ve been friends for many years so I can’t be too harsh. But I will handle it properly, and I promise what happened earlier won’t happen again.”
Jason’s expression turned serious. “Indécision leads to chaos. Miss Glover. It’s better to be decisive.”
“You’re absolutely right,” Iris agreed. She knew that too, but Ted was simply too stubborn. There was nothing she could do about it.
Just then, there was a knock on the door.
Should I leave?” Iris asked.
Jason grunted in assent. Iris opened the door to find Sally waiting..

Chapter 93
“Mr. Just, a Mr. Lawrence is here to see you.”
Jason told Iris to handle it. She immediately understood that the man must be the client for the case she was reviewing.
Sally led her to the reception room.
Mr. Lawrence wore a mask, seemingly wary of being recognized.
Iris entered and closed the door. The man clearly wanted to keep his identity concealed.
“Who are you? I didn’t come to see you…” he started.
“I’m in charge of your case,” Iris replied calmly as she took a seat across from him. “I’ve reviewed your case file and have a preliminary understanding of your situation. However, there are still many things I need to clarify with you.”
The man remained silent, clearly distrustful of her.
“Like I said, I’ve looked over your case file, so I already know what happened,” she continued. “You must understand that I will be your defense attorney. Based on what’s documented, your defense options are limited. If you’re unwilling to cooperate, I’m sorry, but your chances of going to prison are high.
After a few seconds of hesitation, the man reluctantly accepted her as his defense attorney. What do you want to know?”

Iris didn’t rush. She first allowed him to review the case file, then inquired, “Is everything written there correct?”
The man nodded.
Iris fell into deep thought.
During a night out drinking with a friend, the friend had introduced him to a woman. He had sex with the woman that night, but the next day, the woman accused him of rape. According to the man, however, they were merely role–playing- it was consensual non–consent.
