Alittle hardship like that should not have traumatized her so badly,
Yet Jason reassured her, “You’re doing great Women are naturally disadvantaged in our society. You recently fell for the trap of a grown man. It’s perfectly normal to feel frightened.”
She pursed her lips. “You’re really good at making people feel better.”
In truth, she only fell for the trap because Ted was an old friend. That day, she was completely blindsided.
“Are you feeling better now? Do you want me to take you somewhere to relax?” Jason asked.
“Where?” Iris looked up and was immediately captivated by his strong profile and star–like eyes. He was undeniably handsome. After spending time with him, she felt as though he was an elder guiding her, providing her with comfort and support.
If Jason knew what she was thinking, he would probably retort with, “Who are you calling an elder?”
“Can you ride a horse?” he asked.
“No,
Iris shook her head.’ve never tried it before.”

After a moment’s thought, she agreed. “Okay.” It was just riding a horse. How hard could it be?
Jason liked her headstrong attitude. “My car is in the underground parking lot.”
They took the elevator from the corridor down to the underground parking area. They settled into the car, and Iris fastened her seatbelt.
As Jason drove, he asked, “You messaged me the other day asking when I would be back. Was there something you wanted to discuss?”
Iris suddenly remembered that she indeed had something to talk to him about. She quickly told him about Denise’s brother’s situation and asked, “Do you think he has

“Then, can you..”
“No.” His response was firm. He asked her, Your husband cheated on you. How did that make you feel?”
Iris kept quiet.
“In marriage, it’s not just the women who get hurt,” Jason continued.
It was clear that the wife was at fault in this case; she had cheated, and the kid they raised was actually another man’s child. He felt sympathy for the soldier who married such a woman.
Iris fell silent. She had known from the start that the case had little hope. She had only agreed to ask Jason because Denise was her friend.
Taking out her phone, she messaged Denise [Your brother’s case doesn’t have much room for defense.]
After their last conversation, Denise had expected this outcome.
She replied: [Alright.]
Iris lowered her gaze, tapping on her phone screen. [Sorry I couldn’t help you.] [It’s okay. It’s my brother’s fault. If he has to go to prison, there’s nothing we can do. He should have known better.]
There were plenty of women in the world; why choose a military wife and create trouble for himself? He had no one to blame but himself. Denise understood that, but as his sister, she felt like she had to do something.
After their chat, Iris tucked her phone back into her bag and turned to look out the car window.
The sunlight was warm and beautiful.
Jason glanced at her. The golden ray enveloped her face, making her look like a beautiful painting – indescribably exquisite.
When Iris casually turned back around, her eyes met his deep gaze. She immediately looked away.

“Mr. Just…”
He calmly withdrew his gaze, grunting softly in acknowledgment.
To change the subject, Iris asked, “Is the equestrian center far away?”
“Yeah, it’s outside the city,” Jason answered.
Iris nodded.
The car moved further and further away from the city, leaving the concrete jungle behind. After a scenic stretch of mountain road, they eventually reached the equestrian center.
