Ted, however, was someone she knew very well. While he might not be particularly outstanding, he had a solid character. He had silently admired Iris for eight years, but while she was married to Stanley, he never made a move on her, always behaving appropriately. Now that he’s pursuing her, he’s doing so openly.
In the last seven years, it must have killed him to see the love of his life with another man.
There’s a saying that if you really have to marry, you should marry someone who loves you. Yvonne thought Ted was a decent choice.
Iris gently pulled her hand away. “I want to focus on my career.”
Ted had mentally prepared himself for this, knowing there was a 99% chance of rejection. Yet, hearing her soft refusal still left him feeling disappointed. He wilted like a frostbitten eggplant, his expectations replaced by sadness.
He hung his head as Iris picked up the medical kit and left the room.
Yvonne approached and patted Ted on the shoulder. “Iris has just divorced; she needs time to adapt. Give her some space. Eventually, she’ll notice that you’re a good man.”
Bitterness filled Ted’s voice. “I’ve waited for eight years.”
Yvonne sighed. “Hang in there. Your rival is strong.”
With that, she left the room.
Ted blinked in confusion. His rival? Did she mean Stanley?
Well, she’s not wrong. Stanley and Iris shared seven years of history together.
Determined, he rallied his spirits.
He casually picked up his phone and saw a message from Henry.
[Did you have another argument with Stanley?]
It was only then that he noticed he had been kicked out of the group chat. He sneered. As if he cared.
He deleted all of Stanley’s contacts too.
He then replied to Henry: [We’re no longer friends.]
Henry: [???]
[It’s that serious?]
[Yes.]
[Where are you? I’ll come find you.]

Chapter 114
[Don’t, I’m at the Seine Mountain Resort.]
[Seine Mountain Resort? Is Stanley there too? …Is Iris there as well?]
Ted didn’t respond.
[Um… is Yvonne there too?]
Ted stared at the message, lost in thought. Yvonne was always with Iris, leaving him little opportunity to be alone with her.
Was Henry interested in Yvonne?
If Henry could keep her occupied, maybe Ted would finally have a chance to be alone with Iris.
With that thought, he replied: [Yes, she’s here.]
He followed up with a question: [Are you coming?]
Henry replied: [It sounds fun.]
Ted smiled, understanding his intention.
Even though Henry was a playboy, he knew Yvonne was equally wild. Who could say which one of them would be the player in their little game?
Back in her room, Iris lay curled up on the bed.
Yvonne sighed, wanting to comfort her, but the words felt inadequate. “I’ll get you something to eat.”
Because Stanley and Ted ended up at the police station after they fought, Yvonne and Iris hadn’t had lunch yet.
Iris turned onto her side, closing her eyes and burying her face in the pillow. “I’m not hungry. I want to take a nap. You go eat without me.”
Yvonne quietly closed the door behind her as she left, giving Iris space to be alone.
As the door clicked shut, the room darkened. The window was open, and the white curtain fluttered gently in the wind.
Iris closed her eyes, her thick, curly eyelashes trembling slightly. A glistening tear rolled down from the corner of her eye, over her nose, over her other eye, and finally fell onto the pillow.
