Chapter 113
Stanley stood watching the departing car in a daze, his mind swirling with Renee’s words. Yes, he agreed to the divorce; he had signed the papers willingly. So why would he regret it now? Why did life seem bland and tasteless without Iris? It was as if he missed a familiar meal that he had gotten tired of because he could no longer have it.
He had grown tired of the boring, monotonous married life, so why would he want it back now that he had become free?
帶
Why had the home that was once relaxing and comforting transformed into a place he now dreaded returning to?
Just then, a police car pulled up nearby, and an officer escorted a thief out. “You little thief, I can’t believe I caught you stealing again only a few days after you’re released. Are you treating the jail as your second home?”
Stanley turned to watch.
Were habits really that hard to change? Did all his unhappiness stem from his habit of living with Iris?
He had grown accustomed to going home and seeing her there. He had grown accustomed to her cooking. He had grown accustomed to sharing his mundane daily life with her.
Maybe he was unhappy because all that was suddenly gone? Maybe he grew irritated because his routine was disturbed, because he couldn’t get used to the new rhythm?
Perhaps it wasn’t that he loved her so much that he couldn’t live without her; rather, he simply hadn’t adjusted to life without her.
Yes, that must be it. He just needed time to adapt, and eventually, he wouldn’t care about her existence anymore.
With this realization, his mood lightened slightly. He convinced himself he had found a rational explanation for his feelings.
However, Ted’s betrayal was something that he could not forgive!
The first thing he did after taking a taxi back to the resort was to remove Ted from their group chat.
Lester: [?]
Henry: [?]
Both sent a question mark in confusion.
[Stanley, why did you kick Ted from the group? I thought you guys are cool now?]
After kicking Ted out of the group, Stanley also deleted Ted’s number and erased everything

about him. After that, he put away his phone, went into the bathroom to take a shower, changed into clean clothes, and went to the infirmary to get the wounds on his face treated.
Henry messaged Lester: [What’s wrong with Stanley?]
Lester speculated: [It probably has something to do with Iris.]
Henry did not reply. He had also noticed Stanley’s emotional instability after his divorce with Iris.
Meanwhile, Iris was applying medicine to the wounds on Ted’s face while Yvonne sat angrily beside them.
“Is Stanley not right in the head? Why didn’t he stop his mother from spouting all that nonsense?” Yvonne exclaimed.
Iris tossed the used cotton swab into the trash. “All done,” she said, bending down to tidy up
the medical kit.
Ted reached out and held her wrist. “Iris, I’m sorry.”
If he hadn’t chosen this place, they wouldn’t have encountered Stanley, and none of this unpleasantness would have happened.
“It’s not your fault,” Iris assured him.
She understood what kind of person Renee was.
“Let me take care of you from now on. I’ll definitely treat you well,” Ted said, holding her wrist a little tighter. His heart raced, his eyes filled with hope and unmistakable affection.
The most agonizing process in this world is waiting.
Seeing Ted’s affectionate gaze, even Yvonne couldn’t help but feel moved. He had loved Iris for eight years–how deep must that love be!
Yvonne almost wanted to be on his side. Though he couldn’t compare to Stanley and Jason, his love was profound.
Stanley was a scumbag.
As for Jason, he seemed out of reach. She also didn’t know much about him.
