Yvonne crossed her arms. Ted knew very well which room they were staying in because he was the one who booked the room. Their room was right next to his.
And she had no choice but to play along.
“8802,” Iris said.
Ted feigned surprise. “I’m in 8803.”
Yvonne rolled her eyes.
Iris was surprised. “What are the chances?”
Yvonne quipped, snorting lightly, “Right? What are the chances? Who would have thought?”
Ted lowered his eyelids, looking a bit guilty.
Iris wondered why Yvonne was being so sarcastic. She gently tugged Yvonne’s sleeve and said, “Why are we chatting here? Let’s go
in.”
Ted offered his assistance, “I’ll carry your luggage for you.”
Iris said, “No, it’s okay…”
“Let me do it; men are stronger,” he insisted, eagerly grabbing Iris‘ bag. It wasn’t heavy; she didn’t pack much since she would only be staying overnight.
Yvonne tossed her bag into Ted’s arms. “Only hers? What about mine?”
Without Yvonne’s help, he wouldn’t have “run into them” today, so he willingly carried Yvonne’s luggage as well, saying, “No problem; I’ll carry yours too.‘
The Seine Mountain Resort was huge, boasting stunning scenery and natural hot springs. Once inside their room, Iris hung her clothes in the closet while Yvonne lazily sprawled on the bed.
“This place is great. It’s nice to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city,” Iris remarked. She opened the window to let in fresh air, which instantly lifted her spirit.
“The place is even nicer in the summer, You can come here to escape the summer heat. The scenery today is a bit lacking in comparison,” Yvonne noted.
“Let’s come again in the summer, then,” Iris suggested.
“Sure,” Yvonne replied, suddenly sitting up. “Oh, I heard they make amazing fish dishes here. We must try them for lunch!”
Iris laughed. “You never forget about food, do you?”
Yvonne laughed back. “Isn’t that the point of a holiday? Besides, someone else is paying for it.

“Huh? Someone else is paying for it? Who?” Iris asked, surprised. “Weren’t you the one who booked this room?”
Yvonne slapped her forehead, realizing she had let slip. She quickly grabbed Iris‘ arm. “Let’s go out for a walk.”
You misheard–I said I’ll
pay
for it.”
Iris agreed, excited about the beautiful scenery they had passed on the way in. They stepped outside and closed the door, then strolled along the cobblestone path, enjoying the gentle
breeze.
“You guys are out for a walk too?” Ted caught up with them.
Yvonne had no desire to reply, but Iris said with a smile, “Yeah! It would be a waste of money to stay in the room all day.”
The rooms in the resort were not cheap.
“You’re absolutely right,” Ted agreed. “Do you want to go soak in the hot springs?”
Iris thought for a moment. “Sure, that sounds very relaxing.”
She nudged Yvonne. “Didn’t you say you wanted to have fish for lunch? The meal will definitely taste even better after the bath.”
Yvonne glanced at Ted and decided to let him have his way. “Sure, let’s go,” she said.
Ted smiled.
The hot springs were situated halfway up the mountain, with two options for getting there: by car or on a sightseeing bike. Yvonne and Iris eagerly chose the sightseeing bike, wanting to enjoy both the scenery and a bit of exercise.
Ted offered, “I’ll cycle; you two can just sit back and relax.”
“We’ll cycle. You sit in the back,” Yvonne insisted.
Ted wanted to cycle alongside Iris, so he looked at Yvonne and said, “Um, Yvonne, you probably don’t like to cycle, right?”
Yvonne felt annoyed. “Who told you-
Before she could finish, she caught the threatening look in Ted’s eyes. She swallowed her words. “I’ll sit in the back; I don’t want to get tired.”
She felt so frustrated, but Ted had dirt on her.
Yvonne knew Iris‘ temperament well. If Iris learned that Yvonne had colluded with Ted to trick her into coming, she would surely be really upset with Yvonne. Therefore, Yvonne had no choice but to play along.
Iris looked at Yvonne, puzzled by her unusual behavior. “Are you sure, Yvonne?”
