Chapter 104
“You’ve always known that your actions would hurt your wife, children, family, and parents. Why didn’t you stop your bad habits earlier? Why wait until things get so bad? What’s the point of regretting it now?” Iris rebuked.
The man lowered his head. “If I had known this would happen, I would never have done all that.”
“I’ll still fight to defend you until the last moment. You’re lucky; I’ve seen people who end up worse,” she said, deliberately scaring him. “I once handled a case involving a woman with AIDS who sought revenge on society by intentionally sleeping with many men. Those men contracted AIDS as a result. It’s unfortunate, but if they had stayed clean, they wouldn’t have dug their own graves. Don’t you agree?”
The man’s body trembled with fear.
That was indeed worse than what had happened to him. His worst–case scenario was going to prison, but at least he wouldn’t have an incurable disease.
Iris‘ words made him realize the dangers outside. He had a wife, so why would he risk it?
The court date was set for Friday.
Before the day came, Iris successfully negotiated a settlement for the man. Of course, it was all orchestrated by his father. The woman agreed to change her statement, but they still had to go through the necessary procedures.
Ultimately, the man did not go to prison.
The man embraced his wife, crying and confessing his wrongs.
Iris smiled seeing that. She hoped he would mend his ways from now on.
“Thank you, Ms. Glover,” the man’s father approached her and expressed his gratitude.
“You’re welcome,” she replied.
Thanks to the case, Iris now fully comprehended Jason’s advice to think outside the box. Not every case had just the two outcomes of right and wrong; other possibilities existed too.
She considered the case won; regardless of the circumstances, her client was spared prison.
Eager to discuss her promotion with Jason, Iris knocked on his office door but found it empty. She sent him a text: [Mr. Just, I won the case. Can my position be made permanent now?]
He replied: [Congratulations. I’m on a business trip abroad. Talk to HR; I’ve already informed them.]
Another business trip abroad? She found it puzzling. The last case was already taken care of, and he didn’t take on any international cases recently.

However, it was his business, so she didn’t inquire further. She simply replied with an [Okay] and put her phone down.
At the HR department, she went through the procedures and received her employee badge, beaming with pride as she saw her name and photo on it. She had finally become a real lawyer
now, she could openly accept cases.
Wearing her badge around her neck, she headed to the restroom.
Her coworkers emerged from the cubicles and chatted while they washed their hands. “Hey, did you hear? Mr. Just’s assistant just turned permanent. She’s only been here for a short period of time. Isn’t that against firm policy?”
“You don’t know? The receptionist said she’s dating Mr. Just,” the other coworker chimed in.
“Really?”
“The receptionist heard it herself. It’s all over the firm. Why else would she become a full- fledged lawyer so quickly? We both had to go through a year of internship.”
“Wow, so she used her body?” The woman’s voice was laced with jealousy.
“Well, she is attractive. We wouldn’t stand a chance. Mr. Just wouldn’t even look our way,” the other replied.
“True. The willingness to use one’s body is also a talent, I guess. Haha…”
After the women left, Iris stepped out of the cubicle and walked to the sink, staring at her reflection in the mirror. Her hands clenched into fists as anger surged within her.
She never imagined her promotion would spark such disgraceful rumors about her. Taking out her phone, she messaged Jason: [Mr. Just, I don’t want to turn permanent anymore. Let’s follow the normal procedure.]
