We arrived at the grand hall where the ball was being held. Mom has corrected me a dozen times that it’s not a ball. What do you call a party that involves everyone dressing fabulously well, dancing( The Waltz), wine, and showing off how rich they are? It Sounds like a ball to **ing fairy lights. Making it look extremely fancy and bright.
As we walked up the stairs, I could hear the buzz of conversations and laughter from inside. the hall. The door to the hall was wide open.
I hesitated for a moment, feeling a rush of anxiety, but mom gently squeezed my hands.
“You’ve got
this,” she whispered.
With a nod, we went inside. The sight that greeted me took
my
breath away.
The hall was huge, its high ceilings draped with sheer glittering fabrics that caught the light and shimmered like stars. Crystal chandeliers hung from above, everything was just beautiful and breathtaking.
Long banquet tables were set with fine china and glimmering silverware, made with an array of gourmet dishes. A grand Staircase swept up one side of the room, leading to a balcony that overlooked the entire hall. The musicians played softly in one corner as the guest mingled
and danced.
I moved in further, taking in the grandeur of the scene, I could feel the weight of countless

eyes upon me. Conversations hushed hen resumed in hurried whispers as I passed.
Some guests openly stared, their expression a mixture of curiosity and Judgement. I could. hear the snippets of their murmurs. Their words are like shard pinpricks against my skin.
“Isn’t that Alexandra? The Luna who got rejected by her mate?” Someone said.
“Yes it’s her, and her sister took over because of her barrenness,” another said
What a pity, she still showed her face, she must be brave, or really foolish.” Said the third
person.
I started regretting my decision of coming here, why did I ever listen to mom? I kept my

head down, trying to flee from where I was, but the best thing I heard stopped me.
“Her dress is stunning.” I heard someone say.

“Yeah and she’s really pretty as well, I heard from those people there that she was rejected. It’s a loss for whoever let her go.”
The crowd was indeed massive massive.
I raised my head up high with a slight smile on my face as I graciously moved forward.
“I won’t let the whisper define me, I will define who I am and who I want to be.” I whispered to myself.
As I moved through the crowd, I caught sight of Lucas and Selena near the grand staircase. Lucas looked as dashing as ever, his expression unreadable. Selena stood close to him as she noticed my presence, she wrapped her arms around Lucas.
Seeing them made my wound seem fresh again. I knew what Alexandra was doing but I won’t let it get to me. I straightened my shoulders, and continued walking forward. I won’t give them the satisfaction of seeing me crumble.
“Oh My Oh My, who do we have here,” Selena said. “My dear lovely Sister.” She walked over to where I was and hugged me. “Or should I say the Ex Luna,” She whispered into my ear.
Lucas Moved forward to be closer to Selena.
“I have missed you so much Lexi, i tried getting in touch with you, to ensure you are well but mom won’t let,” She said faking tears.
“I know you won’t believe me, but i truly miss you, I wish we could go back to how we were, especially now that you will soon become an Aunty.” She kept on with the crocodile tears.
She drew attention from the people around us, they were all staring and few were whispering. I felt a wave of panic. Took in a deep breath to calm my nerves.

Without waiting for a response, I turned and walked away. I could feel their eyes on my back, but I sure as hell won’t let them see my weakness.
I decided to head to where the drinks were. Someone taped me at the back.
“It is good to see you, Luna” I turned to see who it was, and in front of me stood Deca.
“Omg Deca!” my voice was high in a whisper. I immediately hugged her. “I have missed you so much, it’s been like what. Ages?” I said and we both bursted out laughing.
“It’s really nice seeing you again, where is Josh?” I asked, looking round.
“He stepped out to greet a friend of his,” she said. “Wow you look stunning tonight Luna.” She said
“Oh do not call me that, I’m not your Luna anymore.” I said with a smile on my face.
“You will always be my Luna, get that stuck into your brain,” she said smiling. “Thank you Deca, You look quite stunning as well.” I complement.
Deca was telling me things going on in the pack, and giving me random gist. People started going to the dance floor, Josh came, we exchanged pleasantries as he took Deca to the dance floor.
Just then, a voice broke through my reverie.” Can i have this dance?” I turned around to see a familiar face offering his hand. He is one of the elders from my previous pack.”
“Of course,” I said, placing my hand in his.
As we moved onto the dance floor, the elder said to me. “You are doing wonderfully, my dear. Your strength and grace is an inspiration to us all.”
“Thank you,” I replied. “I needed to hear that.
We danced in a comfortable silence for a while. He was surprisingly a very good dancer, despite his age.
For the first time in what felt like ages, I wasn’t worried about what people would say, I moved with the rhythm of the song with ease and grace.
As the song came to an end, people began leaving the dance floor, the elder gave my hand a gentle squeeze. “You are not a bad dancer,” he said smiling

“Thank you” I said asd bowed.

I Looked around in search of Deca, but instead, caught Lucas staring at me. I couldn’t feel my legs, he began heading in my direction. My heart was pounding in my chest, I couldn’t breathe properly. I silently prayed for something to happen, anything.
He got closer, and then stopped on his track. “May I have a word with you?” he said.
“I..uhmm….1” I couldn’t find the right word.
“Excuse me Alpha, her attention is needed, if you may excuse us.” Deca said, grabbing my hand. She pulled me to The opposite side of the room.
I took a deep breath and exhaled. “Thank you Deca. I didn’t know what happened, i couldn’t move, nor speak, I…I just, I was,” I was so confused that I couldn’t find the right word to use.
“Frozen?” Deca asked
“Yes, I was…frozen.” I looked towards the direction Deca pulled me from if he was still there. Thankfully he wasn’t.
“Why is he trying to make things harder than they are for me?” I asked.
“Come on, lets go get a drink.” She suggested

got to the drink stand, I got myself a glass of wine so did Deca. “I will be right back Luna, let me quickly grab Josh.” with that she left.
Suddenly, a wave of excitement swept through the crowd. I noticed heads turning towards. the entrance, and the buzz of conversation quickly grew louder.
“Oh my God, he is here!!” someone whispered
“Can you believe it? Alpha Albert from the Midnight Claw Pack!” another said. “He never comes for this occasion, I guess it’s my lucky day!” the lady said with excitement.
“He’s even more impressive in person!” The third girl whispered.

Curiosity got the best of me. I glanced towards the entrance, but couldn’t see past the throng
guests. His arrival certainly caused a stir. What kind of a man could command such attention and awe? I could only help but wonder
Just as i was about to ask someone nearby for information, i felt à sudden sharp shorve. I stumbled losing my balance, and crashing to the floor. The content in my glass spilled all over my dress.

I felt tears gathering at the corner of my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I tried to gather my composure, my hands trembling as I attempted to stand up.
Before I could get up, a hand was stretched towards me. I grabbed the hand. It was warm and firm. I looked up and couldn’t believe my eyes. I cleaned my face in disbelief, but he was still there. I me**ly pal**ed my face, why on earth did I do that? The man standing before me was Extremely handsome. What captured me was his eyes, a piercing shade of green.
As he helped me to my feet, I was unable to tear my gaze off his. There was something about him, something I can’t quite place.
