Chapter 18
Alexandra’s pov
We got home minutes later, I couldn’t help but wonder what horrors might have turned that pack into life zombies.
I couldn’t help but worry about the little girl, Richard said he locked up. Would she still be alive? If she is, she must be starving after so many days.
Should I tell Albert? Or should I handle it myself as Richard requested?
“Hey, are you alright?” I heard Albert say, as he shakes me.
“Huh?”
“I asked if you were alright.” He repeated.
“Yes I am, I’m sorry Albert, I just have a lot on my mind.
Albert frowned slightly but didn’t press the conversation further. “Alright, how about we watch a movie? It might help you relax.”
I nodded, grateful for the distraction. “Yes, that sounds good.”
“Great, go freshen up while I make some popcorn,” he suggested, giving me a reassuring
smile.
I headed for my room, immediately I got in, I quickly washed up, and changed into something more comfortable. When I came back downstairs.
Albert was sitting on the couch, with a huge bowl of popcorn and a grey blanket, the blanket was placed on the sofa. I don’t know how he did it, but the sofa resembled a bed. He patted the spot next to him, inviting me to sit down.
I sat down beside him, took in a deep breath, in order to push my worries to the back of my mind.
“So what are we….
I asked, curious.
Albert handed me the remote, “I thought we should watch ‘kiss of the dragon. It’s a bit of a mind bender, but it’s pretty good.”
“Kiss of the dragon,” I mused. “I have heard about this movie, but I never got the chance to watch it.”

Chapter 18
“Well, tonight is your lucky night,” he said with a grin. I think you will like this movie. “It’s got action, suspense and a lot of twists.
As the movie started, I tried to focus on the plot, but my mind keeps drifting to that little girl. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I needed to do something, and soon. But I couldn’t bring myself to tell Albert. What if Richard is right, what if Albert shows no interest and ensures I don’t leave? How will I bring myself to tell the kid that I did nothing.
Throughout the movie, Albert will occasionally glance at me. I knew he noticed I was a little bit off, and distracted. But he chose not to say anything.
He reached over and took my hand, giving it a gentle squeeze, I looked at him and smiled. As the credits rolled, Albert turned to me, “did you like it?”
“It was amazing,” I admitted. “A real rollercoaster.”
He chuckled. “Yeah, I bet it was.”
“Albert, I feel sleepy, I would love to go to bed now,”
“So early?” He asked
“It’s a few minutes to 9, so it’s not really early,” I responded.
“Oh alright, if you say so. Good night Alexandra he said, giving me a peck on the head. “You are welcome to join me in my room, we are not to stay apart from each other you know? It brings bad luck,” He said with a grin.
“Goodnight Albert,” I stood up to leave. “By the way, I might just take your offer, but that’s when you least expect it,” I responded with a smile, as I headed upstairs to my room.
Hours passed and I fussed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. I finally decided to go alone to get the young girl. But that will be done when Albert falls asleep.
I glanced at the clock, and it read 12:00AM, it was time.
Carefully, I slipped out of bed, and dressed in black clothing to blend into the night. I crept out of my room and headed to Albert’s room.
I stood in front of the door as I placed my ears on the door to listen for any sound, or movements in the room. To my relief there was none.
I moved silently through the house, heading to where the car keys were placed. I picked up one of the keys and headed to the front door,

Reaching the front door, I gently opened the door, hoping not to make a noise.
“Where are you going at this hour, and what are you doing with the car keys?” Albert’s voice stopped me before I could successfully step outside.
m crossed,
Startled, I froze. I turned slowly, and saw Albert standing in the dim light, his arm his eyes narrowed. He repeated his question, his tone more insistent this time.
“Alexandra, where are you going?”
I felt a rush of panic, but I tried to keep my composure. “Albert, I…I..”
“You are sneaking out,” he said, cutting me off. The question here now is WHY?”
I bit my lips, debating if I should lie, or come clean. I hated myself for this. I don’t necessarily lie, but ever since I came to this pack, I’ve been a high class liar.
But the concern in Albert’s eyes, made my decision easier. I couldn’t lie to him, “I…I need to help someone,” I began, “there’s a girl Richard locked up in his pack for safety, her name is
Amanda.”
“Amanda?” He questioned as I nodded my head. “And who is Richard?”
“The little boy at the top floor,” I said, staring at my feet.
“He spoke? And you didn’t care to inform me?” He asked. I raised my head up to look at him.
His expression soften slightly, but he remained firm. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“He told me not to, and I thought you might not want to help him out.” I said, realizing how stupid I sounded.
“How gullible can you be? He told you not not inform me, and you listened?” He raised hist voice, and I flinched..
“You should have told me, what part of we are mates don’t you get? You want me to relieve my pains? If that happens, I doubt anything will bring me back, don’t you get it?” He walked closer to me, held my both cheeks. “You don’t have to do things on your own Alexandra.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, as I nodded. “I’m sorry, I thought it was the best way. The girl has been locked up for who knows how long. If we wait, she might…..
“It’s too dangerous,” Albert cut me off, shaking his head. “We need a plan, this isn’t something you just jump into.”

“But we can’t afford to wait, what if something happens to her?”
He grabbed the key from my hand, and headed for the door. I quickly followed him, knowing he was angry, but I was grateful he was coming with me. As we entered the vehicle, I glanced at Albert, he had already started the engine, and his jaw was set in a hard line.
The drive was extremely quiet, I know he was disappointed and angry, because his grip on the steering wheel was tight, his knuckles white. He was driving faster than usual.
I didn’t alter a word, because I know he wouldn’t endanger our lives. Instead I focused on the route Richard had described. The road grew narrow, the forest closing in around us.
Minutes became hours as we drove in silence.
“I need you to promise me something,” Albert finally broke the silence.
1 Turned to him, “what is it?” I asked in a low tune.
“No more secrets, no more going on, on your own, I know you find it difficult to trust others, but you have to trust me.”
I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat. “I promise. I’m sorry Albert, I just…. I felt like I had to act.”
He just nodded, the tension between us eased slightly.
We drove for an hour extra before Albert spoke up again. “We are here, the Blackclaw territory,” he stated.
He packed the car. “Why are we stopping here?” I asked.
“It’s not wise to drive into the place if the kid said it was ambushed. It’s best if we walk on foot and properly observe our surroundings.” He said
