Chapter 8 Making it up to you
The smell of cooked pasta hit Rose’s nose as she walked into the kitchen.
It was Amanda’s day off so she wondered who would be cooking this early. Rose had woken up with a painful headache because of how much she had cried to sleep, her face was puffy and her eyes were
swollen.
When she woke up and found the bed empty, it didn’t help her already sour mood. ‘So, he didn’t even come home last night?” she thought sadly as she turned and walked into the kitchen deep in her thoughts.
“Good morning.” Ethan’s deep voice stopped her in her tracks.
He was freshly shaven and had a T–shirt with sweatpants on, he looked so handsome and it made Rose’s heart skip a beat. But despite how good he looked, The pain from the previous night was still fresh and
Rose was angry.
“Morning.” She responded roughly as she passed him and grabbed a glass of water.
Rose was internally curious as to why Ethan was cooking, he was rarely at home and a part of her wondered if the food was for Zoe.
Not wanting to have her heart shattered so early in the morning, she turned around when his voice stopped her,
“Hey, where are you going? I’m making your favorite pasta.” He said softly and that made Rose shocked.
How did he know how she liked her pasta cooked? Had she been wrong when she thought he didn’t know much about her?
But she refused to turn feeling like he was just tricking her. “He probably asked Amanda.” She thought and continued walking.
Noticing her sour mood, Ethan placed the pot on the table and ran after her, “Rose, wait!” He rushed forward and grabbed her wrist making her spin to face him.
“You can’t just cook me a meal and think I’ll forget all about how you rushed off yesterday, Ethan. You couldn’t even check to see if I had gotten home safe!” Rose blew up, unable to contain her anger.
Ethan’s eyes were full of guilt as he held her small hands into his large ones, “I’m sorry, Zoe-”
Before he could even Finnish explaining, Rose laughed bitterly, “You left me in the cold because Zoe called, Yeah, she’s more important I get it.”
Rose tried to pull her hand from Ethan’s grasp but he tightened his hold, “Please hear me out, she had ant accident yesterday, that’s why I rushed over to help her. She just came back and hasn’t been around for so long so, she has no one else to help her. I promise it was the last time, I won’t see her again.”
Ethan was so close to Rose that she found it hard to breathe. Her heart was pumping wildly in her chest as her brown eyes stared into his storm of greys. She hated how he still had an effect on her even when she was angry with him.
Before she could even respond, Ethan’s phone vibrated, and when he pulled it out,

Rose scoffed and pulled her hands away and was about to walk away when Ethan stopped her, “I meant it Rose, I’m never meeting her again.”
“Prove it!” Rose said as she crossed her arms against her chest.
Ethan pulled her close, knocking all the air out of her lungs, and pressed on ‘Block.” He took the phone and showed it to her, “Here, do you see that?”
Shock couldn’t explain what Rose was feeling but after seeing that he had cut their problem off, Rose’s heart settled and she believed Ethan. A smile crossed her face as she walked over to taste what he had cooked for her. A
Suddenly feeling better.
“I didn’t know you could cook.” She half moaned at how delicious the pasta was.
Just how she loved it.
“I can do so many things!” Ethan teased from behind her, his hot breath was on her neck, and that made Rose blush profusely.
A few hours later, Ethan had called in at work to notify them he’d work from home.
It was the first time Ethan had postponed meetings for her and that made her feel special. Her heart was swelling with joy as they sat on the dining table and worked together.
Rose would steal glances at Ethan here and there and it made her heart flip each time.
After lunch, Rose was standing at the kitchen counter and was taking a tocolytic when Ethan stood behind her with a worried expression,
“What are you drinking? Are you feeling ill?” He asked as he turned her to face him
Rose’s heart was pumping wildly against her chest because she didn’t want him to find out she was pregnant this way, she wanted it to be a special moment for them, so she shook her head,
“No, I’m fine. This is just a health supplement.”
“Oh okay. Do you want to watch a movie with me? We can take a break since we’ve been working since morning.” Ethan suggested.
Rose’s heart jumped in joy!
How did Ethan change overnight and spend so much time with her? She loved it and all the past pain was long forgotten.
“That sounds good.”
Ethan turned to leave when Rose stopped him, “Hey, Ethan?” 2
“Yes?” He turned to look at her.
“Can you come with me to the hospital next week? I have an important medical checkup.” Rose asked, her heart was in her throat because she was expecting him to dismiss her request.

“Of course.”
That made Rose smile, “This is the last chance I’m giving you Ethan. I want us to be happy as I share the news of our new journey together, please don’t disappoint me again.”
