Chapter 7 – From the past
Chapter 7 ~ From the past
Pain couldn’t begin to explain how Rose was feeling. Her knees felt weak and her heart felt like it had been ripped out of her body and she was left numb with no emotions left.
She felt numb and couldn’t even cry from the amount of sadness she was feeling, ‘Ethan will never pick me over Zoe. I will always be the shadow in their relationship‘ She thought as she wrapped her arms around herself.
She had rushed out of the car and forgot to pick up her coat. The wind was blowing and the weather was extremely cold. Her feet had blisters from the heels and how long she had been walking. She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t even remember seeing any taxi pass by.
Her phone was getting low and a small part of her wished that Ethan had regretted leaving her out in the cold and turned the car around.
“1 should know better by now, he wouldn’t abandon his precious Zoe just for me!”
She mused as the tears she was holding back began to fall on her face. She released and a dam erupted inside her making her eyes blur. She wanted to scream and cry her heart out but because of where she was, she had to still remain composed.
She stared at her phone so hard as if that would make Ethan’s name pop up. Closing her phone, she placed her hands on her eyes to cover herself from the bright lights that had flashed her and stopped. She thought it was just a stranger trying to bother her and she wasn’t in the mood so she quickened her footsteps until a voice she knew called for her, 1
“Rose?” The deep voice asked, as he stepped out of the car and walked towards her.
Rose turned and the man turned out to be her childhood friend, Mason Chen.
“Mason?” Rose asked in a shocked voice.
“Yes! My goodness, what are the odds, I can’t believe it’s you.” He said as he wrapped his arms around
her.
Rose hugged him back and wiped her tears as she pulled back. Mason noticed she had been crying but didn’t want that to be their first conversation after meeting after so many years so he didn’t ask. He noticed she was alone and looked cold.
“You look cold, what are you doing out here without something warm?” Mason asked with concern in his voice as he pulled out his warm jacket and placed it on Rose’s shoulders.

I was just from having dinner and wanted to take a walk, I was actually seeing Grandpa with Ethan but he had received an emergency call so I decided to pass some time,” Rose explained as confidently as she could.
Mason looked at the dress and heels she was wearing and hesitated. He didn’t believe Rose but he didn’t want to make her uncomfortable either so he nodded as he changed the subject, “Well, that’s good. Can! drop you off since you seem tired now?”
“Oh no, I wouldn’t want to impose on you,” Rose said as she began to remove the jacket but Mason wasn’t having it.

“Come on. I just returned. We can use this trip to catch up. It’s been so long! Also, you know me, I won’t take no for an answer,” Mason insisted.
Rose laughed, she did know he was a stubborn one and it was no use to say no and she was cold with no car in sight so she nodded, “Fine, only because you’re so stubborn!”
“Haha! Yes, yes.” Mason laughed as he held the door open for her.
Soon they were already on the road,
“So, how’s marriage life going? I never got an invitation, I’m still mad about that.” Mason joked.
Pain flushed Rose’s eyes as she avoided his gaze, she tried to force a smile as she responded, “Marriage is okay. We’re really happy.” Rose responded but her voice had a crack to it and it made Mason feel bad for bringing up something that was making Rose sad.
“That’s really good. I’m happy that you’ve found love. Anyway, enough about that, tell me about what you’re doing now. Did you fulfill your dream?” Mason asked.
Rose sighed in relief as Mason changed the subject. She didn’t want to seem rude but her marriage was the last thing she wanted to talk about. Not without feeling a painful stab to her heart or tears swelling up.
“Oh yes! I did.” She responded with a happy tone, “I now own a jewelry company. I really love it and I’ll be having an exhibition show in a few weeks!”
“You don’t say!” Mason responded, with genuine curiosity. “Then I’m glad I came back right on time, I need a front role ticket, Rose. To make up for not inviting me to your wedding.”
Rose felt guilty, in truth, none of her friends were invited to the wedding because it was extremely private and rushed. She only told those close to her when they saw her with a huge diamond ring on her finger.
“I’m sorry about that, it all happened so fast! You’ve got it! I’ll keep the best ticket for you.” She laughed as Mason reached their estate.
“You can drop me off here,” Rose said when the Iron gates came into view but Mason wasn’t showing any signs of stopping.
“I’ll feel terrible if I drop you off here and let you walk in alone. Besides, anything can happen to you this late.” He said softly.
Rose sighed in defeat and nodded slightly.
The iron gates opened and Mason drove in. He parked at the entrance and walked out to open the door for Rose, “It was great to see you, can I have your number?”
“It was great to see you too,” Rose smiled as she put her phone number into his phone.
Rose waved as she stepped into the house, “Goodnight, Mason. Thank you for the ride. I’ll invite you to dinner one of these days, so we can catch up, “she said.
“Anytime, I’ll be waiting for the invitation.”
A few hours had passed and Rose was lying in bed, but she was still feeling broken from Ethan’s action earlier and was expecting him to call, but he hadn’t called or even sent her a message to ask if she had arrived home safely and it made Rose break down.

“Will he ever love me?” She questioned as her heart clenched.
She was about to place her phone back down when it vibrated and her heart jumped to her throat. She opened it with so much enthusiasm only to be disappointed once again when she saw that it wasn’t Ethan.
UNKNOWN: [It was wonderful to see you Rose, have a good night.]
Mason]
With a heavy sigh, Rose closed her phone and turned over wrapping her arms around herself as tears began to fall.
