James Mayhem was a short man with a belly and a mustache. He was the owner of the Mayhem Law firm and Natalie’s Uncle.
He was a greedy man who loved money and power and built the most powerful law firm in the city through his skills.
Everyone moved out of his way and kept themselves busy as he made his way to Natalie’s office. He opened it with bang sending it flying to the wall.
Natalie looked up from her computer and sighed, “I’ll send the bill for that door to your office!” She stated
“Don’t get smart with me little girl!” James pointed his finger at her, “How could you do that?” “What did I do?” She smiled innocently, her blue eyes shining like she was basking under the sur James’s face was red from anger, “Go to Harper Tech and security and tell them you’re their new lawyer!” “What? I would never! And you know it. Those rich snobs take advantage of the poor and I won’t go against my principles!” Natalie glared at her uncle.
But he only laughed,
“You speak like you have a choice you little brat! Keep defying me and see if your mother and sister will get out of jail!”
“Are you threatening me? We had a deal. I work for you and you don’t pay me a dime! So why can’t you hold your end of the deal?” Natalie was fuming in anger
A laugh escaped James’s throat as he looked at Natalie through his glasses, “You think I have a say in this? You caused the mess, and now you must fix it!”
“I’m a fucking lawyer for fucks sake! Was I supposed to just refuse a case because my client was poor?” “When you’re involved with Harper Tech, make sure you’re on their side otherwise your life will be miserable. Get on with it!” James snarled as he took out a cigarette and began to smoke.
Natalie was boiling inside her but her hands were tied. She knew he was right and that was why she hated wealthy people.
Grabbing her keys, she was about to step out when his voice stopped her,
“Where are you going?”
“You’re really annoying! Didn’t you tell me to go to the Harper Security headquarters?”
you work
did, but what are you leaving your shit in this office for? You’re their company lawyer now! So w
from there and only attend meetings here.” ”
Blood drained from Natalie’s face as she looked at him in shock.
“What!”

1 don’t think I spoke in French now get on with it!” James shouted.
“We can’t be related! You’re a disgrace!” She fumed but James only shrugged as he released a puff of
smoke.
“That’s rich coming from your messed up family! I mean your mother and sister are in prison for murder!”
“She’s your sister!”
“Step. Now get out before I change my mind and kick you out instead.!”
Natalie knew he was bluffing. She knew he needed her but she wasn’t willing to push him. She was the best lawyer in the city, and all she needed was to get her family out of jail and they would no longer have to put up with James
A few minutes later, she was walking into the Harper Security headquarters when she saw people in suits running around.
She was confused as she looked around. It was as if, they were preparing for a war.
Stopping one of the girls in an all–black suit, Natalie leaned forward and asked, “What’s going on here?” “Livelihood Hospital has been attacked and has taken five hostages.”
“But shouldn’t the police handle such kind of a thing?”
“Not when one of the hostages is Ethan Sinclair!” She said and rushed out.
Natalie was frozen for a second as she pulled out her phone and dialed Rose’s number.
But it went unanswered and her heart stopped beating.
“Please! Let us go.” One girl pleaded.
The men were wearing masks to cover their faces and had guns in their hands.
“Let you go? Not after we’ve taken each life here! What makes you think your lives are more important than ours?”
The man fumed as he released another bullet in the ceiling.
Screams could be heard and Zoe grabbed onto Ethan even tighter.
“I’m so scared Ethan!” She cried as she kept holding him.
Upon hearing the gunshots, Ethan rushed out to save Zoe and took her out to safety right before the mob raided the room where Rose was.
Because unfortunately for her, it was Dr. Calvin they were after.
He looked around to search for her but couldn’t see her, “Stay put, Zoe. I have to get in there somehow and check if Rose is inside.”
“No! I mean… she probably got out safely. Only five people are being held hostage in one room. I don’t think she’s one of them.” Zoe said.

“Can we please go home? I don’t want to be here. It reminds me of my sad past. The one you saved me from!” Zoe cried.
Ethan’s heart clenched upon hearing that. He wondered how hard it might have been having to live with the horror all her life.
He nodded, “Okay. Let’s go.”
Slowly, he held Zoe’s shoulders and walked to his car.
From Dr. Calvin’s window, Rose could see Ethan holding Zoe delicately.
Tears rolled down her cheeks as fear gripped her like a vice.
Had he forgotten about her or was he wishing she died so he could marry the love of his life?
The man In the mask had stepped out and closed the door behind her. Luckily, she still had her phone with her. Pulling it out carefully while she was hiding in a corner, she dialed Ethan’s number,
She peeped through the window and saw him pick up and her heart sighed in relief.
It was fine even though he didn’t love her, as long as he rescued her and her child, she could forget about the pain.
“Ethan,” Rose whispered, “Help me!”
“Help you with what? Are you not home?” He asked.
“No, I’m still inside the hospital room. I’m one of the hostages with Dr. Calvin and two other women and a young girl.”
“Ouch! Ethan!” Zoe cried as she hit her head on the car door.
“Careful,” Ethan held the phone in his other hand as he helped Zoe sit comfortably.
Rose watched the entire scene unfold and she couldn’t hold it anymore, tears rolled down even faster.
Ethan then picked up the phone and placed it on his ear, “Sorry, I didn’t hear what you said. Where did you say you were?”
“You fucking left me in the hospital! Where do you think I went in the middle of chaos?”
“You were safe inside the room, Zoe was vulnerable in the corridors. Be considerate for once!” Ethan accused.
Rose laughed, a sad dry laugh.
The door opened and the man walked back in,
“Who the Fuck are you talking to?” He growled as he grabbed the phone and hit her so hard she landed on the floor.
The man took the phone and cut the line. Making all the blood drain from Ethan’s face because it was at that point that he realized that Rose was one of those being held hostage.
