“How dare you lay your hands on her?” Ethan growled so dangerously their eyes widened even more.

They all begin to wonder why a powerful man like Ethan would defend Rose. They dropped their necks in shame as they avoided his gaze.

The whole city knew how powerful the Sinclair family was and once you got on their wrong side, you’d never know peace and no one would hire you. Thinking he was angry because they made noise they quickly explained,

“Mr.Sinclair! We didn’t know you were also present. We didn’t want to fight her, but she started it! We are

sorry for making noise and disturbing your lunch!”

Zoe, who was watching the scene unfold smirked in her heart as she added,

“Rose, how could you be involved in such things? Have you forgotten that you need to stay away from trouble?”

Zoe was implying that as Ethan’s wife, she shouldn’t argue with people in public but because it was still a secret that she was Ethan’s wife, she could only speak through codes while still maintaining her innocent

composure.

“I don’t think what I do is any of your business! You’re there attached to a married man’s hip and no one has said anything about it! Or maybe are you the wife!?” Rose shot back.

Eyes widened and the women were shocked, “So the rumor that Ethan is married is true! Could his longtime high school sweetheart Zoe be the wife?” They whispered among themselves.

Zoe’s hands clenched into fists but she kept her mouth clamped shut for fear of exposing her true colors to Ethan. ‘I have to make sure Ethan divorces this bitch faster, so I can be his wife and then I’ll teach her a lesson she won’t forget!‘

“That’s enough! You, apologize and never set foot in here ever again!” Ethan said coldly.

“That’s right! I bet you can’t even afford a glass of water in this restaurant!” One of the girls added thinking Ethan was talking to Rose.

But their faces were filled with shame when security came and they realized he was actually referring to them,

“Do you have a speech problem?” Ethan asked, running out of patience.

Everyone was astonished, not only did Ethan defend Rose, but they also wondered what their relationship was for him to ignore the woman everyone knew he loved and defend another.

“We are sorry, Rose! We crossed the line, it won’t happen again.” They all added apologies but as soon as they finished, the security escorted them all out. Pushing them away like chickens.

Once they had left, Ethan turned to Zoe, “You go ahead to the meeting, I won’t join you. Let me know if they bully you again.”

Rose scoffed at that. ‘Always soft and tender to his love! What did I expect, that he’d confess his undying love for me? she walked towards the table with Mason

“But Ethan,” Zoe wanted to protest but the cold face and his bad mood made her think twice about it. Okay, then. I’ll call you.” She said and walked to the nearest seat so she could have a good view of Rose’s

table.

Her heart was boiling and her hands clenched into fists when she saw Ethan walk to Rose’s table. She felt like she was losing her grip on him and needed to act faster.

Once Ethan had reached the table his eyes glared at Mason, “You seem to have too much time on your hands, Mr.Chen. Don’t you have other friends apart from my wife?”

Rose laughed uncomfortably, “We are discussing business, Ethan. I don’t think I disturb you during your social gatherings!”

“Well, I can’t help but wonder how that business will come along if he has no backbone. He just watched you get bullied, does he do the same with his workers? Ethan asked coldly.

It angered him that despite what she went through, she was still defending Mason.

“I’m sorry Rose, I wanted to step in. But I just didn’t want to attract attention or put you in a tight position. I’ll make sure they don’t get away with it.” Mason said to Rose, Ignoring Ethan’s attacks.

“That won’t be necessary, because I’m taking her home right now!” Ethan demanded.

Rose looked at him like he had grown two heads. Surely something was wrong with the man standing before her, “Zoe needs you, why don’t you take her home instead?”

“We’ve been through this! Stand and follow me on your own or I swear to God, Rose I’ll lift you off that chair myself!”

“Mr. Sinclair, I don’t think that’s appropriate, and besides Rose hasn’t done anything wrong. We are just discussing the exhibition.” Mason tried to reason with him but it only made things worse.

“What my wife and I talk about Is none of your business, Mr.Chen. if you keep interfering, I’ll end up thinking you have an alternative and we might have a problem!”

“Is that a threat?!” Mason glared at him.

“Ethan, please just stop this! Mason and I have not done anything besides discussing the exhibition. You didn’t want to be part of it in the first place so, why are you now trying to get in the way?” Rose was beyond annoyed at this point.

The sitting arrangement flashed before his eyes and his mood darkened even further, locking his Jaw as his gray eyes glared at Mason but kept his voice leveled, “You don’t have to worry so much, since you want to help with the exhibition so much, you can reach out to my team and they will assist.”

Rose sighed. Knowing she couldn’t reason with Ethan, ‘ll call you, Don’t worry.” she said to Mason.

Mason nodded but hated Ethan’s behavior. In his mind, Ethan didn’t even love Rose but was just possessive like a child with a toy.

He remembered how he found Rose in tears the night he arrived and it made his heart burn. He loved Rose and wanted to take her away from the shackles she was chained to. He had yet to tell her but first, he wanted to win her over before she found out that the woman he was actually intending to be with was her.

“No problem.” He responded but Ethan had already pulled Rose along with him to walk out.

Once they reached the parking lot, he said coldly, “Get in!”

“No! I’m not your toy Ethan. Why won’t you just let me be? I’m so tired of having to be pushed back and forth by you! What have I done to you that you keep punishing me and shutting down every chance I get at happiness!?”

“Mason is your chance at happiness?” Ethan accused coldly.

“We are getting divorced, that’s none of your business Rose practically yelled with tears streaming down her face.

“Rose,” Ethan’s voice softened upon seeing her tears.

“No! Just…” She cried, “Let me be. I want to heal Ethan!” She cried and her knees gave out but Ethan caught her before she collapsed. She grabbed onto his shirt and began to sob into it.

Ethan didn’t know what to do, this was the first time he saw Rose cry and it made his chest feel stuffed, he didn’t understand why but he hated to see Rose cry
