Chapter 7
At three in the morning, the room finally fell silent save for running water in the bathroom.
Winter emerged from her hidden corner, her legs numb from hours of stillness. She stepped over shredded clothing, placed the memory card on the desk, and moved toward the door.
At the slight sound, Reed’s voice carried from the bathroom. “Did you hear something?”
“It’s the middle of the night, love. Come back here…..” Scarlett’s voice purred.
The bathroom door cracked open briefly before closing again
Winter caught her reflection in the window a ghost of herself before slipping away into the night.
The pre–dawn streets were deserted, no cars in sight. She wandered aimlessly, her mind blank despite the roaring in her ears. Her wolf whimpered inside her, grieving.
When she finally looked up through exhausted eyes, she found herself at her old pack training grounds Northern Heights Academy.
At seven, the campus was peaceful. Winter walked the familiar paths alone, memories stirring like
autumn leaves..
The training field where Reed had run countless laps with her, the ceremonial hall he’d filled with moon flowers for her birthday, the gathering grounds where he’d declared his intentions before the entire pack…
Everything looked the same, yet Winter felt like a stranger in her own memories.
Near the main building, she encountered her old Pack Mentor, who immediately recognized hef
“Winter Frost? What brings you back? We heard about your upcoming mating ceremony with Reed. Here to distribute the formal announcements?”
Winter forced a smile, deflecting. “Just visiting. It’s been too long.”
They walked together, reminiscing about pack training days. Before parting, the Mentor retrieved a worn journal from her office.
“I confiscated this from Reed during meditation practice years ago. Since you’re to be mates, you should have it.”

Winter accepted it with a respectful how.
On her way home, she opened the journal to find Reed’s hold handwriting:
“March 12: Winter didit accept my courtship, but she smiled at me today. There’s hope.”
“July 1: Summer break is endless. Waited four hours near her den just to catch a glimpse

“November 23: Someone tried to court Winter. I lost control and challenged him. Got reprimanded-
“December 21: My 17th moon year. All I wish for is to spend every moon cycle with 16 year old
Winter Frost. Forever.
very page bore her name, chronicling a young alpha’s pure devotion.
Tears fell unbidden mourning what was lost, accepting what must end.
Reaching her villa, Winter had composed herself. As she stepped out of the car, she came face to face with Reed returning home.
Her eyes caught the marking bites on his neck, and memories of the night flooded back. She looked
away.
Reed noticed her tear–stained face and frowned, about to speak.
Scarlett, wrapped in his arms, smirked at Winter’s reddened eyes. “Thank you for last night. I’ve sent your payment. The photos were perfect- you must have enjoyed the show too?”
Reed’s heart lurched. “What show?”
“The birthday photos, of course. Unless you mean the later activities…”
Reed’s hand shot out to cover her mouth, but she playfully nipped his fingers.
Winter, now immune to their displays, turned away. Passing the waste bin, she dropped the journal
inside.
Those pages of young love and true devotion disappeared into the darkness, buried forever.
