Chapter 5
Instead of stopping her, my parents stood behind her, their eyes filled with resentment and hatred.
“You shameless, worthless child! You’ve always been at odds with your sister. What good have you ever done for this family? I wish we had never brought you back!”
My mother quickly covered her mouth, realizing she had said something wrong.
My father kicked me heavily in the waist.
Good–for–nothing, what are you waiting for? Cancel the report and get the police out of here!”
“Mr. Wells is getting impatient, and I swear I’ll break your legs if you don’t!”
I held my face, filled with disappointment.
I had always known my parents didn’t like me, but I never imagined they would blame me for
Waner’s actions.
“I didn’t call the police. I told you I was leaving. Whatever happens in this house, it has nothing to do
with me.”
“Whether you end up becoming in–laws with the Wells family or homeless on the streets, I couldn’t
care less.”
“Dad, Mom, I’m your daughter too. Why do you always favor my sister?”
“You can kick me out, I don’t blame you. But don’t expect me to take the fall for her. That won’t
happen!”
My father’s chest heaved in anger at my words, and in the next second, his hand was raised again.
“You ungrateful little brat, I’ve wasted all these years raising you!”
The police officers stepped in, trying to intervene, but couldn’t get a word in.
Just then, a luxury SUV pulled up next to us.
The assistant to Mr. Wells stepped out of the car.
Waner’s eyes instantly lit up as she waved toward him.

“I’m here! You must be the one Mr. Wells sent to pick me up, right? Let’s go, I’m ready.”
The assistant looked at her with an odd expression.
“This lady, I think you’re mistaken. I’m here to pick up Miss Winnie Swift.”
At those words, both Waner and my parents froze.
Had Mr. Wells figured out what happened that night?
A cold shiver ran through me, and my voice trembled slightly.
“Pick me up? I don’t know anything about this.”
机
“Are you sure? I don’t know Mr. Wells at all…”
Waner, still unaware of the situation, turned beet red with fury.
“You slut, I knew you were trying to crawl into Mr. Wells‘ bed! You filthy bitch!”
As she spoke, she angrily reached out to pull the assistant.
“There must be some misunderstanding. Mr. Wells just sent me a message saying he would send. someone to pick me up, but my sister got jealous and reported a false alarm. Could you explain this to the police for me?”
“The drugs that night were put in by my sister, it has nothing to do with me!”
Her parents were equally agitated.
“Yes, yes, Mr. Wells has been treating Waner so well! She’s the future lady of the Wells family! She’s carrying their only heir! How could she end up in the police station?”
The assistant’s patience ran out, and with disgust, he pushed her hand away.
“Carrying the Wells‘ heir? Don’t be ridiculous. Mr. Wells hasn’t even seen you in person. It’s one thing to talk nonsense, but everyone knows the woman engaged to the Wells family is Miss Brown from the Brown family.”
“I think you’ve got this wrong. The person Mr. Wells sent to pick you up… is the police.”
“The surveillance footage from that banquet clearly shows you drugging someone. The video’s been retrieved and handed over to the police, who are here to investigate this matter.”

With that, the surroundings fell into an eerie silence.
Waner’s mother’s face went as white as a sheet, and she collapsed weakly onto her father.
Waner herself stood frozen in disbelief, her eyes wide open.
The neighbors, upon hearing the assistant’s words, cast disdainful glances at the family.
“How dare you drug Mr. Wells? You must be crazy!”
“Trying to drug him and still shamelessly saying you’re the future lady of the Wells family? Hilarious. How can anyone be so shameless?”
remember the last person who tried to drug Mr. Wells… their grave is probably already overgrown with grass. Looks like the Swift family is finished.”
The assistant disgustedly brushed off the place where Waner had grabbed him.
He then pulled out a stack of documents from his bag and threw them at their faces.
“This is a list of the losses the Wells Corporation incurred due to the rumors that caused their stock prices to drop. Take a look.”
“Mr. Wells is kind enough to give you a 50% discount, so you only owe two million. You’d better pay up soon, or we’ll have to go through legal channels.”
Without looking at Waner’s pale face, he turned and walked towards me.
Respectfully, he picked up the clothes I had dropped on the floor, folded them neatly, and placed them back into my suitcase.
“Miss Swift, please. Mr. Wells has been waiting for you.”
I nodded and, under the watchful eyes of everyone, followed the assistant to the car.
On the way, I couldn’t help but gag.
The assistant, seemingly prepared, immediately handed me a bag of sour dried plums labeled “For Pregnant Women.”
I froze, my hand clutching my chest as I saw the words on the packaging.
Pregnant? Pregnant?!
reuddenly remembered that my period still hadn’t come this month.
