The activity at the kindergarten kicked off.
Everyone sat down at the tables that were set up. Leah looked at Antonio, who was sitting in the row ahead, and asked me with frustration, “Mom, why isn’t Dad sitting with us?”
I pinched Leah’s chubby cheek.
She was so little, and I didn’t want her to know what a jerk her dad was.
“I’m like a superhero. To make the game fair, your dad is helping out other kids,” I gently explained.
Then, the teacher announced the start of the first activity, a block–building contest. “The winner gets a prize–a spaceship Lego set.”
Leah got all excited and pointed at the spaceship. “Mom, I wanna win!”
“I bet you can!” I replied with a smile, and we started building with the blocks.
Half an hour went by.
Leah raised her hand and shouted excitedly, “We’ve finished!”
The teacher came over, nodding with approval.
Just as she was about to announce the result, a little boy from

the front row rushed over.
It was Jacob.
He knocked over the blocks we had built and declared, “I win!”
Leah’s eyes welled up with tears as she saw her blocks fall. In a fit of pique, she grabbed a big block and threw it at Jacob.
Antonio quickly stopped her and said, “Leah, how could you do that! Apologize to Jacob.”
Leah stubbornly replied, “Why should I? He knocked over my blocks!”
I stood my ground behind my baby girl. “Antonio, Jacob was the one in the wrong!”
Sophia came over and tugged at Antonio’s arm. “Let it go. Don’t argue with them.“.
The teacher also stepped in to try and calm things down.
Leah burst into tears, feeling wronged. “Dad, why are you standing up for a bully?”
The word “Dad” made everyone’s jaw drop.
Eyes swiveled between me, Antonio, and Sophia.
Antonio looked really awkward, while Sophia bit her lip, hesitant to speak.
Jacob stood in front of Leah with his hands on his hips, roaring aggressively, “You’re not my sister, don’t call him that! He’s my dad!”

Leah looked at Antonio, pulling at his shirt. “Dad, say something!”
I was enraged. I couldn’t stand seeing my daughter being treated this way.
I shot a fierce glance at Antonio, my voice getting stricter. “Antonio, aren’t you going to explain? Do you want us to be misunderstood like this?”
Antonio glared at me, picked up Jacob, and snapped, “What’s there to explain? I’m Jacob’s dad today!”
Then he patted Jacob’s head.
The other parents cast scornful glances at us, whispering among themselves.
“Keep your own daughter in check. Why did she call Antonio ‘Dad‘?”
“We’ve seen Antonio and Sophia bringing their son to kindergarten.”
“Are you trying to get with Antonio or something?”
While Leah and I were being condemned, Antonio just turned a blind eye, trying to comfort Jacob.
Sophia suppressed a laugh as she glanced at me.
I picked up the crying Leah, gently patting her back. “It’s alright.
Don’t listen to their nonsense.”
As much as I wanted to tell everyone Antonio and Sophia were the cheaters, I couldn’t let Leah get hurt again.

Then, I heard someone nearby say, “Look, Antonio and Jacob. look exactly alike. They must be father and son.”
I glanced at Antonio, catching a fleeting look of guilt in his eyes before he fell silent, scratching the back of his head.
Sophia seemed pleased, wearing a smug smile.
I had seen Sophia and Jacob before.
But I never realized how much Jacob looked like Antonio.
Maybe Antonio had been cheating on me for a long time.
Jacob was his son with Sophia.
Leah was crying hard, so I asked the teacher to take me and Leah to the break room.
I needed to comfort her.
Once we got there, I managed to get Leah to calm down, and she eventually fell asleep.
As I looked at her swollen eyes from all the crying, my heart broke.
I crept out on tiptoes, made my way to the hallway, and called HR and the lawyer.
“Levi, Luke, grab the divorce papers and the termination letter and come to Leah’s kindergarten right now! I need you here in thirty minutes.”
While I was going over the details with them, I heard a scream.

I immediately turned around.
