Betrayal 9

Chapter 9
I thought that after that, Alpha Joseph and Hallie’s melodramatic “love and death” would no longer concern me.
But to my surprise, that evening, Alpha Joseph called, demanding to know why I had hurt Hallie. As I listened to the man I once loved hurl accusations at me, I could only find him. laughably childish and pitiable now.
“Alpha Joseph, you need to understand- it’s Hallie who was being shameless and provocative. I was simply reclaiming my earring, the one she sna**d from my makeup box that day,” I said.
Alpha Joseph was taken aback. “Haven’t l

already given you 10 billion as compensation? Isn’t that enough?”
I scoffed. “My father’s financial support over the past ten years far exceeds that amount. Besides, it’s my property, and I have every right
to handle it as I see fit.”
“Evelyn, Hallie just wants a wedding. We’ve ended our mate bond. Aren’t you worried
about the consequences of your actions?” Alpha Joseph demanded, his voice laced with
frustration.
“What am I causing trouble about? What sins have I committed?” I thought I wouldn’t get angry again, but his words nearly pushed me over the edge.
I felt the need to clarify things once more.

“Alpha Joseph, whether Hallie wants a wedding or to marry you is between you and her.
“What does it have to do with me?”
“If you want to support her and help her, that’s your business. Don’t try to morally coerce me
into it.”
“And I’ve made it clear-I’m done with you.”
“Just because I know you doesn’t mean I have to help someone who’s destined to fail.”
“There’s no law that says someone with a terminal illness can act with impunity.”
“Take care of yourself, and stop bothering me.”

I knew my words were harsh and unkind. Alpha Joseph swore and didn’t hang up, which was unlike him.
After a while, he asked me, “Evelyn, where did you buy that earrings, and how much did they cost?”
It then dawned on me that Hallie still hadn’t given up on my earrings. “I had it brought from Myanmar a few years ago-a jade cabochon, which was then custom-designed. The jade cabochon was 600,000, and the setting cost a little over 10,000,” I replied.
Alpha Joseph seemed momentarily stunned. “Such an expensive piece-where did you get the money? I don’t recall you ever mentioning
it.”

Truly childish!””Mr. Stevens, where I get my money from is none of your concern,” I said with a faint smile. “If you have nothing else, stop bothering me. Hallie doesn’t have much time left. You’d better get on with preparing for your wedding. You only have a week left, after all. You want to fulfill her dying wish, don’t you?”
“Can’t you say something nicer?” Alpha Joseph said before hanging up.
That evening, my former wedding designer called to inform me that Alpha Joseph had contacted her to recreate my wedding plan for
his and Hallie’s wedding. Since the wedding. plan was originally my creation and the designer was only responsible for executing it, they needed my approval. Given the tight schedule, the price was ten times what I had originally paid.

If I agreed to provide the design, the company would transfer 500,000 to my account.
Why would I refuse? Only a fool would turn down money.
To my surprise, a few days later, I received an invitation from them. The next day, I saw Hallie flaunting her jewelry on social media-emerald earrings, diamond rings, diamond bracelets, and more. Her posts included a batch of photos.
I heard that Alpha Joseph had paid 580,000 for those earrings, but Hallie still complained about them not being as nice as my set, constantly fixating on my jewelry. As for the diamond ring, given its apparent size, it must have cost a
fortune.

Three days later, their wedding photos were posted. I saw the logo of the wedding photography company and couldn’t help but twitch my lips. When I was planning my wedding photos, I had done them alone and then photoshopped Alpha Joseph in. Clearly, Hallie’s wedding photos weren’t photoshopped.
How amusing!
