“I’m cruel? How innocent can you and she be?” I laughed bitterly. “You were in bed with her the night of the party, weren’t you? I sensed it. Do you think I’m a fool? You really disgust me.”
Without warning, Alpha Joseph raised his hand and slapped me hard across the face, pointing at me and scolding, “Evelyn, how dare you speak to your Alpha like that.”

In my fury, I slapped him back, shouting, “Get your woman and get out of here. Right now!”
Alpha Joseph, probably shocked that I’d struck him, was enraged, his face turning a fierce shade as the veins on his forehead bulged.
The sound of something shattering in the break room startled me. I pushed Alpha Joseph. aside and ran to find Hallie standing there, looking helpless. At her feet was the jewelry box containing my mother’s necklace.
A string in my mind seemed to snap. I stared at the culprit standing before me.
Hallie, frightened by my gaze, stepped back

My sanity had burned away.
