Chapter 20 A Dead End
I had just started speaking when someone suddenly shouted at him on the other end of the phone.
Grayson hurriedly said, “Aria, let’s talk later. I gotta go now…”
The phone call ended, and the words “Can you come pick me up?” welled up in my throat but I didn’t have the chance to say it.
I gradually folded my arms across my chest and stared out into the pitch–black night. For the very first time, I experienced the forlornness of what it meant to be “homeless“.
I sat on the steps, feeling lost and unsure of where I could go.
To go to Jasmine’s place?
But she was not in Boston today.
In the morning, she sent me a message saying that she was going to the countryside to visit her mom and would probably return in a few days.
The night wind carried a piercing chill, and my heart felt an
even deeper cold.
It was late, and Grayson was still busy. He must have been trying to gather the 1.05 million dollars for
my dad.
And I worked all day, but I didn’t accomplish anything.
Thinking about how easily the 500 thousand dollars slipped away, I felt so sad that I wanted to
cry.
I held my knees, filled with sourness and sadness.
Suddenly, a strange laughter burst out from behind.
My scalp tingled, and I quickly turned my head to see a man staring at me intently.
The man’s face had a slight blush as if he had been drinking.
He didn’t come over, just leaned against the elevator entrance and smiled at me.
His gaze was direct and penetrating, strange enough. He seemed like a person who was mentally unhinged. It was truly terrifying.
I didn’t know how long he had been staring at me.
As I saw his expression, a chill ran down my spine. I quickly got up and walked away.
I walked briskly out of the neighborhood, planning to hail a cab and head to a nearby hotel.
But the moment I took out my phone, I spotted a shadow on the ground.
Swiftly, I spun around and was shocked to find that the creepy man had actually trailed me.
I was instantly frightened.
I’hurriedly ran towards the main road.
That man actually followed and shouted “Hey, miss” repeatedly.
His strange laughter made me shudder all over.

There was no one on the road, not even a single car.
I could only run to the main road, thinking maybe it would be safer.
Because there were always cars passing by on the main road.

While I was running anxiously, I quickly took out my phone, ready to seek help from my parents.
‘However, just as I found the contact list, my phone ran out of battery and shut down.
My heart sank suddenly.
What should I do now?
There was still a long distance to the main road.
And that creepy man ran very fast, almost catching up.
Should I find a place to hide?
I looked around in panic.

I took a moment to relax before finally straightening up and observing the surroundings.
There was a tall building not far away, and the area around the building was lit up with lights. could faintly see the sign “Hilton Hotel“.
Great, as long as I got to that hotel, I would be safe.
I was about to walk out of the alley in front of me and head towards the direction of the hotel when suddenly, a shadow was abruptly cast at the entrance of the alley.
My heart trembled, and I covered my mouth in fear.
I was in a dead end. If that creepy man walked in, I would have no way to escape:

As he approached closer and closer, I couldn’t bear it any longer and let out a scream, running towards the exit of the alley without caring anything.
As I passed by him, he stretched out his arm and instantly grabbed me.
So frightened, I struggled and screamed like crazy,“Let go of me, let go of me…”

His large hand roamed over my body. His fingers gently hooked onto the strap of my shirt, and he spoke almost through gritted teeth.“Out this late, and dressed like that. Aren’t someone might have evil intentions towards you?”

Only Mason always spoke harshly to me in this way.

He pinched my waist and sneered at me, “I thought you were good at running? What happened to your weak legs?”
I didn’t speak, not because I didn’t want to, but because I couldn’t.
He extended his long arms, slipping them beneath the bend of my legs, and then carried me up horizontally.
As he walked out of the alley, the bright moonlight shone down, and I finally saw his face.
He furrowed his brows, and his icy face looked gloomy.
I stared at him without blinking, and inexplicably, I started crying.
He cast a glance at me, and let out a faint hum, as if he was very angry.

I stared blankly ahead, tears somehow streaming down my face.
He drove very fast and arrived home in no time.
He rudely threw me onto the bed and before I could even get up, he pressed down on me.
His eyes were dark and filled with anger.
Thinking about the missed 500 thousand dollars, I no longer had fear towards him, only
resentment.
I pushed his hard chest and said, ‘Go away!”
He coldly sneered, “When you were scared in the alley just now, why didn’t you ask me to go Yoway?
I didn’t speak.
He squinted his eyes as he stared at me, desire burning in his eyes.
He stared at me from head to toe with such a look.
I felt uncomfortable under his gaze and unconsciously tugged at my miniskirt.
He suddenly sneered and scornfully said, “Didn’t you mean to attract men’s attention in this outfit? Stop pretending to be pure.”
My heart hurt.
He used to be gentle and virtuous, and I never thought that one day he would say such hurtful words to me.
