Chapter 9
I hesitated for a few minutes before approaching,
Seeing me come closer, a bodyguard reached out to stop me.
“Don’t touch her!”
Ethan Parker walked out from the courtyard, the sunny cheerfulness gone from his face, replaced by a cold, somber expression.
Ethan grabbed my hand and led me into his courtyard.
The door slammed shut behind us.
“Don’t follow us in,” he said.
The bodyguards exchanged glances, but finally replied, “Alright.”
“Olivia, did you come to call me for dinner?”
Without the bodyguards around, Ethan seemed to regain his previous cheerfulness.
“No, I came to say goodbye.”
Ethan’s voice suddenly rose in pitch.
“Where are you going?”
I told him about submitting my resume and getting an interview.
“Although it’s nice here, you said on the mountain that every day is a new beginning, with infinite possibilities and vitality. I want to give myself a fresh
start too, to live without regrets.”
“So. Olivia, have you let go of that person in your heart?”
I looked at him, somewhat surprised.
Ethan blinked, “Don’t underestimate me. An artist’s eyes are very perceptive.”
Put on the spot like that, I felt a bit embarrassed.
“Mm. I guess I have let go.”
“So where are you going to work, Olivia?”
“Northville.”
Though I had considered moving to a city far from Carter Lockwood, I’d been living in Northville ever since Grandma took me in.
I grew up there, went to school there, and all my classmates were there.
Why should I force myself to live in an unfamiliar city just because of Carter Lockwood, gradually adapting to everything new?
“Then I’ll go with you, Olivia. It’s perfect timing since my family has come looking for me.” I never expected to end up hitching a ride with Ethan Parker.
