Chapter 2
Thad ruined Carter Lockwood’s birthday party.
But he didn’t seem to care much.
The butler had already arranged for the guests to leave, and the staff was cleaning up the mess.
The beauty was kept behind, standing quietly beside Carter.
Even her personality seemed to mirror Carter’s first love.
In comparison. I truly appeared to have lost my mind.
Carter played with the beauty’s fingers, addressing me casually.
“Why are you so angry?
“If you don’t want to see her. I’ll have her stay elsewhere.
“Don’t worry, I swore to Grandma that I’d never threaten your position as Mrs. Lockwood.”
The woman beside him also tried to placate me.
“Mrs. Lockwood, why be upset? A man like Mr. Lockwood couldn’t possibly have just one woman.
“I merely admire Mr. Lockwood. I won’t affect your status.”
I removed the ring from my finger.
I placed it on the table in front of Carter.
He raised an eyebrow.
“Here’s your ring back.”
Carter picked up the ring and tossed it into the air.
The diamond ring’s brilliant light arced through the air before falling back into his hand.
He threw it behind him to the woman: “It’s yours now. Mrs. Lockwood just threw away a ring worth millions without a second thought.”
Carter stood up with a cold laugh and instructed the butler.
“Find some etiquette teachers for Mrs. Lockwood. I don’t want to see such discourteous behavior again.”
He took a few steps, then turned back.
He threw his own ring on the ground.
The ring rolled around a few times before stopping at my feet.
“Since you don’t want the rings, let’s throw them all away.”
