Chapter 11
Life back in Northville was more peaceful than I had anticipated.
The media didn’t discuss Mrs. Lockwood, who hadn’t been seen for a long time, and no one from the Lockwood family came looking for me. My existence was never worth paying attention to.
However, the media became increasingly curious about the assistant Carter Lockwood always kept by his side.
I casually scrolled through the photos secretly taken by paparazzi.
It felt incredibly ironic.
Did Carter Lockwood truly love Rose Turner that much?
In the photos, Carter Lockwood bent down, allowing the woman to adjust his tie.
When getting into the car, he carefully protected her head.
On a rainy day, the woman’s hand stretched high to hold an umbrella for him, and he took it, tilting it more towards her side.
Apparently, love for someone can be so easily transferred just because of a similar face.
Carter Lockwood had always protected Rose Turner’s information well.
No photos of her had ever been leaked.
Everyone was speculating whether I had been completely neglected by Carter Lockwood.
If I were still with the Lockwood family, I might be waiting for a husband who never comes home.
But now I’m busy preparing proposals, attending meetings.
Busy with…
“Ethan Parker, I told you to stop being so clingy with me!”
I pushed away the head leaning on my shoulder.
Ethan Parker pushed my laptop away and complained:
“You have such a handsome guy in front of you, yet you’re staring at The Old Man and daydreaming?”
It was the first time I’d heard someone call Carter Lockwood “The Old Man.” If Carter Lockwood knew, imagining his expression, I couldn’t help but laugh.
When I finished laughing and looked up, I found Ethan Parker’s expression had turned serious.
“Is he the one who hurt you before? Carter Lockwood from Lockwood Corporation, I know him.”
I looked at him in surprise.
In my memory, I had never seen Ethan Parker at the Lockwood family.
“When I was little, my mom made me call him uncle.”
“…”
I couldn’t hold back again, clutching my stomach as I fell laughing onto the sofa.
“Haha… he’s only four years older than you, and you had the nerve to call him uncle… haha…”
Ethan Parker pinched my face.
“He looks old for his age.”
Carter Lockwood had been involved in company affairs since he was young, appearing more mature than his peers even at a young age.
I suppose that’s not wrong to say.
“So, you’re the missing Mrs. Lockwood from the Lockwood family?”
Ethan Parker’s face suddenly enlarged in front of me.
I realized I had somehow ended up lying on Ethan Parker’s lap while laughing.
I wanted to push him away and sit up, but for once, he wasn’t as easy–going as usual. His eyes looked straight at me, seerning to demand an answer. “Mm–hmm.”
“Then am I your secret lover on the side?”
Ethan Parker laughed at his own joke.
I reached out and smacked him.
“Don’t talk nonsense!
“Besides, I’ve already left the Lockwood family and returned the ring to him.”
“Then I’ll find a lawyer, and you two can divorce tomorrow!”
“No need… we don’t have a Marriage Certificate.”
I smiled bitterly. Without a Marriage Certificate, there’s no need for a divorce.
The only tie between us was that ring symbolizing marriage.
Perhaps after being Mrs. Lockwood for so long, even Carter Lockwood forgot that we actually didn’t even have a Marriage Certificate.
“That’s perfect then. Why don’t you help me get a Marriage Certificate instead!”
