Chapter 8
Chapter 8
The moment Alpha Joshua’s hand gripped my arm, I felt the familiar surge of his power, but this time, it wasn’t comforting. It was suffocating. His fingers dug into my skin, dragging me toward him as if I still belonged to him, as if I was something he could control.
“Eloise, you’re coming with me. Now,” he growled, his voice laced with dominance, the kind only an Alpha could command. He pulled me with such force that I stumbled forward, but I quickly regained my footing.
“No,” I said, my voice quiet at first, but it grew stronger with each syllable. I yanked my arm free from his grip, standing tall despite the turmoil swirling inside me. I’d had enough.
Joshua’s eyes narrowed, a deep snarl rumbling in his chest. “This isn’t a request. You‘ re mine, Eloise. We’re going home.”
Home. The word was bitter in my mouth. Home had been a place of pain, of neglect, of watching him prioritize someone else–Monique. He hadn’t known what he’d lost, what we had lost. But I had, and it had broken something in me that could never be repaired.
“I’m not going anywhere with you, Alpha,” I said firmly. My voice echoed louder than the music and conversation that surrounded us. Wolves turned their heads, curious about the scene unraveling in the middle of the gathering
Joshua’s eyes darkened, his Alpha command bubbling under the surface, ready to lash out. “You don’t get to decide that. You re my mate, my Luna. You belong to me.
I flinched at his words. Belong to me. Was that how he saw me? Something to possess, to use and discard when convenient? I felt a knot of anger twist in my chest, coiling around my heart.
“No, Alpha,” I said, and my voice was icy, steady. “Not anymore.
His eyes flickered, confused, as if he couldn’t quite process my words. As if he couldn’t imagine me defying him. But I wasn‘ t the same Luna he had controlled with a mere glance. Not anymore. I had found my strength in the pain he caused me. I had found me.
“You don‘ t understand,” he began, his voice softening for the briefest moment, but there was still that undercurrent of control. “I was protecting Monique because-

I didn’t want to hear his excuses. I didn’t care that he claimed to see his dead sister in Monique. That didn’t excuse the way he’d treated me like I was second choice, the way he had abandoned me emotionally, the way I’d lost our child alone, with no one to comfort me.
My heart clenched at the thought of our lost baby. The grief that had been buried deep inside me surfaced again, threatening to consume me, but I pushed it down. This was not the time to fall apart. I needed to stand tall. To finally cut myself free.
“I don’t care about your reasons, Joshua,” I said, my voice cracking slightly, but I didn’t stop. “You abandoned me. You neglected me. And you will never know the full extent of what I’ve been through because of you.
“”
Joshua‘ s eyes widened, but before he could respond, I took a step back. Alpha Easton stood beside me, his presence solid and calm, like a rock amidst the storm. I glanced at him, and the old warmth between us flickered, but this moment was about me–about freeing myself from the chains of the past.
I squared my shoulders and met Joshua’s gaze head–on, knowing that what I was about to do would change everything.
“Joshua,” I said, my voice firm, “I reject you as my mate. I sever our bond, here and now.
“”
For a heartbeat, the world went still. The air around us seemed to freeze, and the weight of the words hung heavily in the space between us. I felt the bond between us, the one that had tied us together as mates, tremble and crack. Then, like a string pulled too tight, it snapped.
The vial of potion…
