Chapter 7
Chapter 7
The gathering in the capital was teeming with Alphas, Lunas, Betas, and warriors from packs all across the region. The low hum of conversations filled the room, and despite the tension over the rising threat of rogues, there was still a sense of camaraderie among the pack leaders.
But for me, it felt like walking into a world I no longer belonged to. I tugged at the edges of my dress, feeling strangely out of place, even though Adrianna had insisted I come. My pack was gone, my title stripped away–or at least that’s what I kept telling myself. But the weight of their words still clung to me. You‘ re still a Luna, Eloise. No one can take that away from you.
I made my way through the hall, trying to remain as inconspicuous as possible, though I could feel the eyes of other wolves on me. Some were curious, others judgmental. I knew the rumors had
spread–the Luna who left her Alpha. It was a rare story in our world, where mate bonds were sacred, nearly unbreakable. Nearly.
“Eloise?”
The familiar voice sent a jolt through me, and I froze mid–step. I turned slowly, my heart suddenly racing.
Standing before me, with his tall frame and strong, steady presence, was Alpha Easton.
For a moment, I forgot how to breathe. Memories flooded my mind–of warm summer days spent in the forest, of stolen kisses beneath the moonlight, of promises whispered in the quiet of the night. Easton had been my first love, before Joshua, before the mate bond had sealed my fate.

Easton, I breathed, my voice barely above a whisper.
He smiled, that same easy smile that always made my heart flutter. His dark hair was longer now, a little unruly, and his deep green eyes held a softness that made me feel like I’d stepped back in time. “I didn‘ t expect to see you here,” he said, his voice low and warm.
I cleared my throat, trying to regain my composure. “I didn’t expect to be here either.
He chuckled, taking a step closer. “Still running from your instincts, I see.
I raised an eyebrow. “I’ve had to learn how to run, Easton.

His expression softened, and for a moment, the noise of the gathering faded into the background. “I heard about what happened with Alpha Joshua,” he said, his voice gentle. “I’m sorry.
I looked away, my chest tightening. “You don’t have to apologize. It’s over now.
“Is it?” His question hung in the air between us, heavy and filled with something unspoken.
I met his gaze again, feeling the weight of the past pressing down on me. “What do you mean?”
“You were always meant for more, Eloise,” he said softly, his eyes searching mine. “I knew it when
we were younger. You were never meant to be just anyone‘ s mate–you‘ re a Luna, a leader. And I’m sorry you had to go through this, but… maybe it’s time you remembered who you are.” I blinked, surprised by the raw honesty in his words. “You make it sound so simple.
“It’s not,” he admitted, a wry smile tugging at his lips. “But I know you, Eloise. You‘ re stronger than you think. Stronger than Joshua ever deserved.”
My heart ached at his words, and for a fleeting moment, I wondered what my life might have been like if I hadn’t found Joshua, if the mate bond hadn’t pulled me away from Easton all those years ago. The connection between us was still there, lingering like a ghost of what we once had. I could feel it in the way his eyes lingered on me, in the way my wolf stirred, sensing the history between us. But before I could respond, before I could let myself be swept away by old emotions, I felt it–the unmistakable presence of him.
Joshua.
My entire body tensed, the air around me thickening with his approach. I didn’t even need to turn around to know he was close; the bond, though weakened, still alerted me to his presence like a storm brewing on the horizon. I could feel his emotions crashing into me–anger, jealousy, fear. Easton s eyes flickered to something behind me, his expression hardening. “Looks like we‘ to have company.

I swallowed hard, forcing myself to remain still as the scent of pine and raw power filled the space around us. Joshua’s Alpha aura was suffocating, his dominance rolling off him in waves, demanding
attention.
I turned slowly, my breath catching as I met his gaze.
There he was, standing just a few feet away, his dark eyes blazing with fury. His jaw was clenched tight, and his fists were balled at his sides. He looked… wild. Desperate. Like a man on the edge of losing everything.
“Eloise,” he growled, his voice low and dangerous. His gaze flicked to Easton, and the jealousy radiating off him was palpable. “What are you doing?”
