Chapter 6 Why Couldn’t a Car Just Hit Both of Them?
The Stephensons‘ true objective had always been to exploit Chandler.
Over their five–year marriage, Hugh had constantly taken advantage of Chandler under various and Clarissa was painfully aware of this.

pretenses.
The realization filled her with shame.
Closing her eyes momentarily, she reopened them with a cold expression. “That’s between you and him. Your decisions have nothing to do with me. I’m here for one reason today. Did you sign the agreement?”
Chandler’s eyes narrowed, and the subsiding anger resurfaced. “Clarissa, will you ever stop?!”
Clarissa was taken aback. Did he still believe I was causing trouble at this point?
What gave him such an inflated ego?!
Exhausted, she lost her patience. “Please sign the divorce agreement as soon as possible. I don’t want any further involvement with you. If you’re not satisfied with the terms, have your legal team draft a new version, and I’ll sign it.”
Hugh’s earlier outburst had nearly made Clarissa forget her purpose. She turned and left without hesitation.
“Clarissa!” Chandler rose to follow, but his phone on the desk started ringing.
He answered, and a timid female voice said, “Mr. Morcho, Gillian Lawson is missing.”
The plagiarism scandal was causing an uproar online.
Thankfully, Emily’s uncle had managed to contain the situation.
Moreover, Clarissa’s status as Mrs. Moreno had led the studio to fiercely protect her identity, so the public hadn’t yet discovered her real name.
Nevertheless, the entire ordeal was draining Clarissa’s energy.
To add to her woes, the property manager called. “Ms. Stephenson, about your apartment door… I’m afraid we can’t install it
The manager nervously glanced at the man standing opposite him, his voice strained.
“Why not?” Clarissa frowned. She had already purchased the door. All they needed to do was install it. How could that be a problem?
The manager was on the verge of tears. “Your, uh, your door… doesn’t meet installation standards… We can’t proceed with the installation.
If Clarissa still hadn’t realized something was wrong at this point, she’d be completely stupid.
“Did someone tell you not to install it?” Her voice turned icy, her teeth grinding in frustration.

Was Chandler seriously doing this? He had rekindled his relationship with his first love, and I had already made space for them. Il’hat more did he want?
Did he have to push me this far?
The manager remained silent, unwilling to elaborate.
Clarissa rubbed her temples, her patience waning. “Give him the phone.”
The manager quickly handed the phone to Neil, who was standing nearby.
“Mrs. Moreno.”
Clarissa grabbed a cushion from the couch and squeezed it as if it were Chandler’s head. “Tell the property team to install my door. I’ll deal with Chandler myself.
“Mrs. Moreno, Mr. Moreno said-
“If I can’t deal with him, I’ll deal with you!” Clarissa snapped.
Neil sighed, feeling trapped. What had I done to deserve being caught between these two?!
Clarissa narrowed her eyes. “Tell Chandler, if that door isn’t installed, I won’t hesitate to give him a reason for an even bigger scandal.
Ultimately, the door was never installed.
Chandler hadn’t answered her calls.
Instead, Neil relayed Chandler’s simple message.
“Do as you please.”
By lunchtime, when Emily returned to take Clarissa out for a meal, Clarissa’s mood was still somber.
“What’s wrong? Still stressed about the plagiarism issue Emily asked, noticing her friend’s distracted state.
Clarissa shook her head. The plagiarism issue would resolve itself in time.
Besides, her studio had already issued an official statement.
She wasn’t worried, as she had done nothing wrong.
Emily rolled her eyes. “Don’t tell me it’s because of Chandler, that jerk!
At the mention of his name, Clarissa’s frustration spiked. “His first love is back in the picture, so why won’t The just sign the divorce papers and be done with it?”
Isn’t it obvious?” Emily slapped the table, a knowing look on her face. “He doesn’t want to lose the money!”
“Huh?”
“Think about it. You’ve been married for years, and he’s been the one earning most of the money. In the past couple of years, the Moreno Group has grown rapidly. Chandler’s net worth changes every year. A divorce would mean you’d walk away with a significant chunk of that Would you be hanner if it were wond

Clarissa sighed. “And yet, you had the audacity to ask him to transfer all the properties to me in the divorce terms.”
Such a ridiculous clause–it had to be the work of that sneaky lawyer, Dominic Conner, under Emily’s instructions.
“Ungrateful! I only did it because–Chandler?” Emily’s voice trailed off, her tone shifting dramatically.
Clarissa frowned. “What now?”
Emily’s hand trembled as she pointed outside the window.
Clarissa turned to look.
At a busy intersection, a woman wearing a mask and hat, completely covering her face, darted across the street, ignoring the red light.
Right behind her, a tall man in black grabbed her by the wrist.
His sharp features were twisted with both frustration and concern.
If it wasn’t her stubborn husband, who refused to divorce her, who else could it be?
That explained why he hadn’t been answering her calls–he was too busy bickering with his beloved first love.
Serves him right.
“Are they… fighting?” Emily tilted her head, watching the scene unfold like a soap opera.
Clarissa scoffed with a cold laugh. “Why couldn’t a car just hit both of them?”
