Chapter 28 Where Did You Get These Photos?
“Dr. Barker, Mrs. Moreno is awake.” A nurse attending to Clarissa noticed that she had woken up.
After scanning her surroundings, Clarissa realized that she had been brought to the hospital.
The doctor examining her was the Morenos‘ family doctor, Nathan Barker.

“Dr. Barker, what happened to me?”
She only bumped her waist, not her head, so how could she have fainted?
“Mrs. Moreno, you’re pregnant.”
Clarissa was stunned, as if she was struck by lightning.
She froze like a statue. “What did you say?”
How could she possibly be pregnant?
Chandler had always been careful to avoid it.
Besides, it had been months since they were last intimate.
Suddenly, Clarissa remembered something.
Over a month ago, Chandler had gotten drunk and barged into her room in the middle of the night.
She had been asleep and, in her grogginess, couldn’t recall if he had used protection.
Thinking back now, if she were pregnant, it would most likely have been from that night.
She can’t blame him. Who could expect a drunk person to remember to use protection?
Clarissa felt as if her heart had plummeted to the depths of an icy lake.
She had once longed for a child with Chandler, but now it felt utterly nauseating.
Why did it have to happen now?
Why did she have to conceive Chandler’s child only after she had lost all hope?
“Mrs. Moreno, what’s wrong?” The nurse asked with concern, noticing her pale complexion. “Do you feel unwell anywhere else?”
Clarissa shook her head in a daze, her face ashen.
She had no idea what to do in that moment,
Before she could sort out her feelings, the Morenos arrived.
Nathan was the Morenos‘ family doctor. He would certainly inform the Morenos about Clarissa’s
pregnancy.

Chandler’s mother, Lydia Moreno, was a kind woman. As soon as she walked in, she took Clarissa’s hand and patted it, saying, “You’ve been through a lot, my dear.”
Chandler’s father, Samuel Moreno, was a stern man. He nodded at Clarissa before directing his serious gaze toward Chandler.
“Come with me!”
Chandler stepped out with Samuel, leaving Clarissa to frown at his departing figure.
Lydia assumed she was concerned about Chandler and softly said, “Relax, your Dad won’t do anything to him. But he did go overboard this time and deserves to be taught a lesson!”
Clarissa was silent for a moment.
Now that the pregnancy was out in the open, getting a divorce from Chandler would be that much harder.
The thought of it gave her a headache; worrying about Chandler was the last thing on her mind.
“Mom, actually, Chandler and I …”
Clarissa, Lydia cut her off, her voice steady and calm, “You probably aren’t aware yet.”
Aware of what? Clarissa furrowed her brow in confusion
“The kidnapping incident–Chandler covered it up for you.”
Clarissa’s eyes widened in surprise.
Chandler covered up for me?
“Chandler is naturally cold and slow when it comes to feelings, and he isn’t even that close to us.”
Lydia looked at Clarissa with a gentle smile on her face. “But with you, he’s different.”
Clarissa froze.
“I know that, over the years, his coldness has worn your heart down.”
As someone with similar experiences, Lydia understood well what it felt like to have a distant husband.
From the day Clarissa married Chandler, she had treated her exceptionally well, wanting to make up for what Clarissa lacked from a mother’s perspective.
“But now… for the child’s sake, maybe you should give him another chance? Can you wait a little longer for him?”
Clarissa felt speechless at Lydia’s words.
What was she supposed to wait for?
Wait for him to come to his senses and treat her well?
She once thought Chandler was indifferent to her because of his cold personality.

But she later realized that no matter how cold he seemed, he was still capable of warmth and affection for
someone.
It just wasn’t meant for her.
What had Chandler done wrong?
He simply didn’t love her.
Clarissa lowered her gaze and didn’t respond to Lydia’s words.
Lydia didn’t push her. She simply patted the back of her hand and said nothing further.
Leo had remained silent the entire time, but his presence alone was enough to show his stance and how much the Moreno family cared for Clarissa.
To be honest, it was impossible for Clarissa not to feel touched.
Ever since she had been kicked out of the Stephensons, all the warmth she’d experienced had come from the Moreno family.
The Morenos had treated her with such kindness.
They had treated her so well that even if she could afford to disregard Chandler and proceed recklessly with the divorce, she still had to consider the Morenos‘ feelings.
By the window in the hospital hallway, Samuel’s expression was cold as he asked, “What’s going on between
you and Clarissa?”
“We’re getting a divorce,” Chandler responded briefly.
Upon hearing his reply, Samuel’s gaze turned intense in an instant. “Because of Gillian?”
Chandler raised an eyebrow and asked, “What does this have to do with Gillian?”
“Do you honestly think I’m oblivious to your little affairs?” Samuel snapped, pulling an envelope from his coat and tossing it to Chandler.
Chandler caught the envelope and emptied the photos inside.
Among them were images of Gilian hugging and kissing him at Splendid Garden, as well as the ones where Gilian rested against him and wrapped her arms around his waist at the Stephenson residence.
Their intimacy was evident in every photo, leaving room for anyone to misinterpret their relationship.
The more Chandler examined those photos, the grimmer his expression grew.
“Dad, where did you get these photos?”
