Chapter 25 Can I Ask You for a Favor?
Clarissa slumped into the passenger seat, wearing a look of resignation. “Whatever. I’m famished.”
“What about some spicy food?”
“Spicy Beef Chili?”
“Sure!”
Emily drove them to their favorite restaurant.
Once they arrived, they requested a small private room, sat across from each other, and ordered a lot of spicy food, including spicy beef chili, ghost pepper quesadillas, and crispy chicken wings tossed in hot chili sauce.
While they were enjoying their meal, Emily’s phone buzzed.
She pulled it out to see it was Jerry, the main character of Twitter’s trending news!
Emily’s inner gossip enthusiast immediately sparked to life. She picked up the call and switched it to speaker.
“Uncle Jerry!” she exclaimed loudly, catching him off guard.
After five seconds of silence, Jerry’s restrained voice came through, “Is there anyone sane there? If so, make a sound.”
Clarissa responded, “Beep…
Clarissa had a mature, seductive appearance, but her voice carried a hint of a childlike tone.
When she spoke normally, her voice was naturally sweet and high–pitched. Thus, she often lowered it to sound more mature.
But now, having gotten a little too excited over the feast before her, she forgot and used her natural voice, which left Jerry stunned.
There was a five–second silence on the other end of the phone.
Jerry pinched the bridge of his nose tightly and asked, “Where are you?”
“Chili Dash.” Hearing the subdued irritation in Uncle Jerry’s voice, Emily quickly gave their location.
“What?”
“It’s a restaurant located at Imperial Avenue.”
With a click, Jerry hung up the phone.
Emily understood from his earlier words that he intended to come to see them.
She fiddled with her fork, feeling a bit regretful about her earlier reckless anties. “Clarissa, what do you think Uncle Jerry wants to come over for? His delicate stomach can’t handle such spicy food.”

Not only could Jerry not eat spicy food, but he was also allergic to chili peppers and couldn’t tolerate their
scent.
During a business dinner, he had a last–minute date who didn’t know about his allergy and ordered a dish that included chili. As a result, Jerry ended up in the hospital.
The outcome of his last–minute date was predictable.
Jerry was indeed a decisive man. However, he had always shown an unusual level of tolerance toward Clarissa…
This thought made Clarissa reluctant to pursue her train of thought; her gaze flickered momentarily with unease. She masked her discomfort with humor, saying, “Maybe he came to keep trending on Facebook and Twitter.”
To her, Jerry was a good person, and she didn’t want to complicate their relationship by introducing romantic involvement.
Jerry and Chandler were like two extremes.
Jerry was warm and graceful, appearing welcoming and accommodating to everyone. Yet he maintained a principled distance from women, making him essentially unapproachable to those he wasn’t romantically interested in.
As for Chandler, he appeared cold and indifferent, giving off an oppressive aura that kept others at bay. But in reality, he was a true playboy who enjoyed engaging in numerous romantic escapades.
This proved that looks can be deceiving, and one should not judge a book by its cover.
Clarissa tugged at her lips, realizing she must be insane for comparing the two of them.
She lowered her head and took a sip of water. For some reason, the delicious food in front of her suddenly lost its appeal.
Chandler was out there flirting with everyone. Yet every time they engaged in intimacy as a couple, it felt like the Morenos were pushing him into it.
How much he must loathe her!
After about 20 minutes, Jerry walked into the restaurant. He had covered his mouth and nose using a handkerchief in one hand while holding a few sheets of paper in his other hand. It turned out he was actually there for the trending news on Twitter.
As soon as he sat down, he handed some papers to Clarissa.
“This is the evidence of Gilian secretly blackmailing you online. You can decide what to do with it.”
He usually wouldn’t involve himself in other people’s matters.
However, since Gilian had crossed him this time. If Clarissa’s handling didn’t satisfy him, he would deal with it himself.
He was never someone to be pushed around!
When Clarissa heard that Gilian had indeed been undermining her, her eyebrows raised slightly.

Suspecting something was one thing; hearing someone else confirm it was entirely different.
How dare Gilian provoke Jerry? Has she lost her mind?
As she flipped through the papers, her expression became increasingly icy.
“Jerry, can I ask you for a favor?”
She used the term “a favor,” prompting Jerry to raise an eyebrow.
His gaze held a complex mix of emotions as he looked at her. “Spill it.”
“Regarding my kidnapping, I’d like you to help me investigate who did it.”
Jerry raised an eyebrow and asked, “You don’t know?”
Clarissa looked surprised. “Know what?”
“Half an hour after the kidnappers were caught, Hugh went to the police station. After that, all the kidnappers claimed that the abduction was orchestrated by you; they were just playing along, Jerry said calmly.
Clarissa’s face turned pale upon hearing this.
“That can’t be true!” Emily banged the table out of frustration. “How could Clarissa possibly hire someone to kidnap…”
At this point, Emily suddenly fell silent, swallowing her remaining words.
She then looked at Clarissa with a troubled expression, her eyes filled with concern.
It took Clarissa quite some time to find her voice again. She covered her face and suddenly burst into laughter.
“Ha… Haha… Hahaha …
But as she laughed, tears began to fall.
“Clarissa…” Emily felt heartbroken seeing Clarissa like this.
How could that scoundrel Hugh do this to her?
How dare he!
“If you want to investigate this further, I’m here to help” Jerry said as he handed Clarissa a tissue.
Clarissa had never felt more like a joke than she did then.
