Chapter 21 I Can’t Take the Credit
“Cough, cough, cough
How dare Emily to speak out of turn about her uncle!
Is she trying to get into trouble?
Jerry passed a piece of paper to Emily, giving her a sharp look.
Emily bowed her head, acting as if she were completely uninterested.
“Thanks, Jerry,” Clarissa said with a grin.
Jerry looked surprised, then stood up to prepare a bowl of oatmeal for her.
Emily clicked her tongue in surprise. “If he weren’t my uncle, I’d think he had hidden intentions with you, Clarissa.”
Clarissa shivered. “Knock it off!”
“Is your uncle someone I can be close to?”
Emily pressed her lips together. “If you want to get close, just do it. You’re getting divorced anyway, and I wouldn’t mind you being my aunt.”
“Let’s drop it,” Clarissa said, shaking her head earnestly
Jerry returned with the oatmeal and halted when he heard her. He casually asked, “Why should we drop it?”
Clarissa coughed again, her eyes filled with annoyance. “Jerry, I just want to enjoy my breakfast.”
Jerry raised an eyebrow in response.
Emily lifted her gaze briefly, glancing between Clarissa and Jerry, then went back to feigning indifference.
Why does this feel… a little odd?
Jerry locked eyes with Clarissa and paused for a moment before shifting topics. “Clarissa, did you hear that the claims about you copying someone’s work and the Rainville cartoonist who accused you have released statements to clarify and apologize?”
Clarissa was utterly baffled. “Clarify? Apologize?”
She had no idea what he was talking about.
In a hurry, she pulled out her phone to look it up.
To her surprise, there was nothing about her, no information at all.
The only things she found were the apology from the blogger who spread the rumor and the denial from the Rainville cartoonist..

However, he smiled and shook his head. “I can’t take the credit for that. This has nothing to do with me.
“Didn’t you have someone take it down?” Clarissa inquired.
Jerry continued to shake his head.
Clarissa felt even more confused.
Who besides Jerry would have come to her aid?
A vague thought crossed her mind, but it seemed too unbelievable, so she quickly pushed it aside.
Jerry grabbed a bread with his fork and placed it on Clarissa’s plate.
“Honestly, I’m curious about who’s been helping you from the shadows,” he said with a smile. “If you’re interested, I can look into it.”
Clarissa instinctively shook her head. “No, that’s not necessary.”
Feeling guilty, she avoided Jerry and Emily’s gazes, lowering her head to pretend to eat.
Jerry gazed at her intently, his feelings a mix that was hard to read. Likely, no one but him could understand what that expression truly meant.
“Well, if you’re not interested, let it go,” he said.
Clarissa managed a tight smile, pulling her lips into a strained curve.
She couldn’t explain why she instinctively wanted to prevent Jerry from looking into it.
It felt like the truth he uncovered would be too difficult for her to handle.
During the meal, Clarissa ate without really tasting anything.
Once Jerry stopped bringing it up, Emily assumed he was intimidated by him and kept quiet the entire time.
After finishing her meal, she hurried upstairs to catch up on sleep, leaving Clarissa alone to see Jerry out.
“Jerry, I still want to thank you for your help before,” Clarissa said as they reached the entrance, expressing- her gratitude once more.
Jerry looked at her and said, “I’m Emily’s uncle, it’s only natural for me to look out for the younger generation.”
Clarissa paused, feeling as if she had been played.
“Well, take care, Jerry,” she said quickly.
Jerry held his ground, not moving his feet. “When are you thinking about getting a divorce?”
“I’m not planning to divorce just yet,” Clarissa admitted
Jerry frowned. “Why not? Is he pressuring
