Chapter 16 Dangerous Temptation
Chandler’s face darkened.
Did Clarissa really think he was that low?
The moment she saw his expression, Clarissa realized she’d jumped to the wrong conclusion.
Even as scummy as Chandler was, he wouldn’t stoop to something like that.
She turned away, ready to get in the car, but Chandler still hadn’t let go of her wrist.
Clarissa gave him a confused look.
“You’re still Mrs. Moreno. Going to the police station like this–are you trying to make your already bad reputation even worse?”
Oh, so he was just embarrassed she’d make him look bad.
She smirked, her lips curling up.
“Then why don’t you just sign the divorce papers already? That way, whatever I do won’t have anything to do with you anymore.”
Chandler narrowed his eyes. Lately, it seemed like Clarissa couldn’t go three sentences without bringing up divorce.
His cold gaze fell on the lead officer. “The statement? She doesn’t need to give one. I’m sure you know how to file the report.”
The officer froze for a second, then quickly nodded in agreement.
The police cars sped off, leaving Chandler and Clarissa alone on the dimly lit street.
“Chandler, are you crazy? What do you even want?!”
Clarissa felt like she was losing her mind. She had no idea what this man was thinking anymore. “Just give it to me straight–what will it take for you to finally let me go?!”
Even in the shadowy light, Chandler could clearly see the disgust on her face.
For a moment, he couldn’t even remember how Clarissa used to act around him all these years.
But someone as proud as Chandler couldn’t stand being provoked like this, and the frustration bubbling inside him finally started to boil over.
He let go of her wrist and suddenly let out a cold, humorless laugh.
You think the reason I won’t sign the divorce papers is because I can’t let go of this marriage? Or because I can’t let go of you?”
His mocking tone hit Clarissa like a slap.
Her chest tightened with discomfort, and the words that came out of her mouth weren’t exactly nice.

“Ha, like I’d ever be delusional enough to think that.” She scoffed, practically sneering at him. “Even if you can’t get it up, there’s still a line of women waiting to crawl into your bed that stretches all the way to space.
“I’m just a fake heiress, not even worthy of being a side dish. Why would you ever have a hard time letting me go?
“See? That’s why I’ve so graciously made room for the next woman in line nice and early!”
Clarissa’s tone was casual, as if none of this mattered to her at all. The sarcasm was so thick, she nailed it perfectly. She made it sound like the whole thing was a joke–just a trivial matter she’d brushed off.
With her arms crossed, she looked up at Chandler with a mocking gaze. “I just don’t get why Mr. Moreno insists on dragging this out and refusing to sign the papers.”
The way she was acting nearly made Chandler’s blood boil.
But even more infuriating than the anger was the underlying panic that had been gnawing at him ever since she first brought up divorce. It hadn’t eased for a second.
On the surface, he kept his emotions in check, but his eyes grew darker and darker, the intensity in his gaze sharp enough to cut her to pieces.
In the past, Clarissa would’ve been terrified by that look.
She would’ve immediately apologized and tried to smooth things over, giving him an easy way out.
But now, Clarissa didn’t even spare Chandler a glance.
Through gritted teeth, Chandler forced out, “I can’t get it up?”
“Oh, Clarissa casually flicked her hair over her shoulder. “Well, after five years of marriage, we manage to sleep together five, six, maybe seven times a year? That’s like once every two months. My suspicion seems pretty reasonable.”
Chandler’s face darkened like a storm. “And who was it crying and begging for mercy every time we did?”
Clarissa fell silent instantly.
No need to bring up the past!
The darkness did a good job hiding the flush creeping across her face, but she wasn’t about to–back down. Her words were still sharp enough to make anyone grit their teeth. “I was just protecting your ego. I mean.. if it takes your parents pushing you to even get you in bed, I figured I should at least help you feel like a man. Otherwise, we’d be down to zero times a year.”
“Heh!”
Chandler let out a cold, humorless laugh, his icy gaze fixed on her. “Good.”
Clarissa blinked, confused.
“What do you mean, good?”
The second he said it, Clarissa had a bad feeling

She tried to make a run for it.
But Chandler grabbed her wrist, holding her firmly in place.
“Chandler, you-
“I can’t get it up?” Chandler took a step forward, advancing on her.
His overpowering presence crashed down on her, leaving her completely off guard.
“Chandler, wait
“You’re dying to be in my bed, aren’t you?”
Clarissa backed up, her heel teetering on the edge of the sidewalk. One more step and she’d fall into the street. “Who wants to sleep with you?! Are you out of your mind?!”
Chandler suddenly lunged forward, closing the distance between them.
He was practically pressed up against her.
Clarissa let out a startled yelp and instinctively leaned back.
Her foot slipped, and she lost her balance, tumbling backward.
But just before she could fall, a strong arm wrapped around her waist, yanking her back toward him.
Clarissa’s hands flew up, pressing against Chandler’s chest.
Her wide, panicked eyes met his. “Chandler, what are you doing?!”
Chandler’s lips curled into a faint smile, though it held no warmth.
“You’ll find out soon enough.”
As he spoke, his sleek car pulled up to the curb.
Clarissa’s heart raced with sudden dread.
“Chandler, let me go! What are you trying to do? You-
He ignored her completely, grabbing her wrist tighter and dragging her toward the car.
