Chapter 94
Alena
“Hi, baby. I missed you,” Matteo said as he wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me close.
“Hey,” my voice was low and almost inaudible but it was loud enough for him to hear.
It didn’t take him long to notice the tone of my voice and how it was related to my mood. He turned around to look at me almost immediately which caused me to clear my throat before I began to walk ahead, trying to change the topic. “How was your day?”
“It was a bit busy but it’s all better now because I’m home with you,” he replied.
“Oh, how busy were you?”
I walked up the stairs and straight into our room while my husband followed me like a lost puppy. I placed my handbag and the paper bag on the bedside table before I turned to look at him as he stood by the door.
ways and I think they were quite good. So, we were mostly discussing about that. How was your day, baby?” He made his way towards me, wrapping his arms around my body from behind.
“Luca and I have been discussing about the ways we could find the person behind all of this. He proposed different
I nodded, “My day was fine.”
“Are you
“Why?”
sure?”
“You don’t look like you’re fine.”
“How can you tell?”
He chuckled, “Alena, you’re my wife. Did something happen with Mikhail?”
Matteo could never really stop calling Papa by his name but it didn’t bother me at all. His relationship with Papa was hard to describe-they never really liked each other but they tolerated one another for my sake. As long as they weren’t always coming at each other’s throat, that was fine by me.
I never expected my boyfriend or my husband to be close with my father. The main reason was because I knew Papa, I knew his ways, I knew how much control he wanted. He had his own ego because he was a man of power and it was one of the reasons why he could never like Matteo even if he tried.
Matteo was a powerful man as well and I had a feeling, Papa felt challenged.
“We had lunch together. Alexei was there, too.” I replied, staying still in his arms.
It was nice to engulf myself with the warmth of his body. I could spend hours being his arms and never complain because it was one of the ways he could calm me down. Besides, we were having a different conversation and I had to keep it that way, in order to avoid him from asking anything else.
“How was it?”.
“It was great.
Our eyes met and we stayed still for the next few seconds. Matte had raised his eyebrow, somehow not believing it even for a little bit. My eyes rolled and I sighed deeply, “It didn’t go as planned. It was horrible actually,

“Uh-oh, what happened? Tell me.”
“You know Alexei…”
“I do. What did he do this time?”
“Being a f****ng ***le. That’s what he did,”
“I thought he was always a fu***g a**hole?”

We both laughed as I rested my hand on his chest, loving to hear the sound of his voice and feel his heartbeat. It was my favourite combination, one of the things I could never resist when it came to Matteo. He was a perfect package and I could have it all.
All of my worries seemed to have disappeared and I was left feeling utterly calm.
“Actually, I went to see Papa because I thought I could talk to him about you.” I said.
“What about me? You didn’t tell me that,”
“You wouldn’t let me if I told you,” I pouted.
“Okay… go on, I want to hear everything.”
I looked up into his eyes as I spoke, “I don’t like the way he has been treating you ever since what happened to me. He keeps on blaming you for what happened even though it wasn’t your fault. Not just that, he keeps disrespecting you, too.”
“Alena…”
“And my st***d brother decided it was nice to be an a***ole today. I know he’s always an a***hole but he was being extra for the things he said to me. We kind of argued and I just stormed out of the restaurant and went home.” I groaned, complaining.
Matteo continued to rub onto my back as he rested his chin on my head, trying to calm me down. I wasn’t as angry as I was during lunch but every time I remembered the things he said to me, I felt as if I could punch his face.
I swore I wanted to punch his face and let him fall to the ground. I really hoped I had did that earlier instead of leaving after I said ‘f***k you’. I didn’t want to embarrass Papa or myself at the restaurant and as much as I wanted to scream at Alexei, I didn’t want to waste my time.
“I appreciate you standing up for me, baby but please, don’t put yourself in that situation ever again. You don’t have to be stressed out about something like that. It doesn’t bother me at all, as long as I have you here with me. Besides, I can always ignore him.” Matteo said, leaning back to look at my face.
“You’re my husband. I hate it when you’re being treated like shit
“Look, baby. It doesn’t matter how they treat me as long as you’re with me and not with them. As long as I get to see you when I get home. As long as you’re here, physically here.” He replied, cupping my face as he caressed my cheeks.
Nothing could change the fact that I loved his words of affirmation.
“You’re right…
“I really appreciate what you did today. I really do,” he added.
I know. I just hate my brother now,”
“Let me do something for you.”

He took a few steps back as he went ahead to think. I knew he had a few ideas in his head and those ideas were never going to disappoint-he had great ideas when it came to please me or make me happy. Sometimes, they weren’t even sexual to begin with. They were mostly great things we could do to spend quality time together.
“I’ll make us dinner tonight, okay? I’ll even set up a table for us with candles. How does that sound?” He asked, smiling.
“Sounds perfect actually,” I smiled back.
“Great, I’ll cook anything you want. Then, we can even have ice cream after.”
“You’d have dessert for me?”
“I’ve been skip**ng my ‘no dessert’ rule ever since you, Alena.”
My lips curved up into a smile as I laughed, admitting that he couldn’t be more than right. He used to hate desserts especially chocolate and ice cream but after he met me, he grew to love the sweet things I craved. He ended up making space for my cravings.
It was a love language. At least for me.
I looked into his eyes before realisation hit me.
I had forgotten for a few minutes but it came back to me. The stop at the pharmacy, the result of my pregnancy test and
and smile faded away.
my how nervous I felt-they were coming back to me
How long could I hide the truth from Matteo?
I didn’t want to get it confirmed on my own. A visit to the clinic to confirm my pregnancy was the right thing to do but I wanted to go with Matteo, it was a good memory for the both of us. He always wanted to be involved in everything during my first pregnancy with Marco.
There was no reason for me to hide the truth from my husband because we were happily married. It could be a good news for the two of us after everything we endured. We deserved something good to happen in our lives and this could be the start of something new.
“Alena? Baby?” He asked, breaking me from my trance.
“Huh? Yeah, what is it?”
“Everything okay? Did you hear me?”
“What did you say?”
“I asked what you wanted for dinner. You just zoned out on me,” he replied.
“I’m sorry… I just—’
He cut me off, “Is everything okay? Do you want to tell me anything?”
I blinked a few times before I shook my head, “Everything’s fine. I think I just want to take a warm bath. That’d make me feel a bit better after what happened with Alexei,”
“I’ll run the bath for you,” he said before he kissed my forehead.
the bath. I slowly took my time to grab the pregnancy test in my handbag Then, he walked ahead to the bathroom to ru before deciding what to do-I could just throw it away and took a different test later on or tell Matteo

My heart was beginning to beat fast as I tried to think fast.
“I was thinking we could grab a flight to Tokyo next week, just to clear our heads. What do you think?” He asked from the bathroom as he moved around, trying to grab other things before he placed them near the bathtub.
“That sounds really nice. Why Tokyo though?”
“We could try the Mario Kart there.”
I stayed still for a few seconds as I tried to think of what could possibly happen. I could just drop it bag in my handbag and pretended it never happened or went ahead to tell my husband and assumed good things to come out of it.
My hands began to tremble as I held the test tightly.
“Alena?”
My eyes widened as I realised he was calling out for me. As I turned around to look at him, he was already standing by the bathroom door and he looked down at my hand but before he could notice what I was holding, I managed to hide it behind my back.
“Are you sure you’re okay? You don’t look okay,” he asked.
“I’m fine.”
“What is it you’re hiding on your back?”
That was it. Everything stopped and I swore it all went quiet.
I took a few deep breaths as I continued to look at Matteo, expecting him to drop it off and just walk away but he didn’t. He stoo
